Depression
Well I hope to finish wheat this week, we are behind.
No fall crops
So once the wheat is in I can put stuff away, sit on
A bucket, open a can of diet coke, and say to myself
"Well there is another year shot to %&#!"
Was doing some reading and look'n on the confuser (computer).
Ya know things don't look so good anymore (myself included.)
Wheat a little above $4, Milo just above $3, beans a hair over $8. We don't do corn (I know not doing so here is almost a mortal sin)
But,..it don't look pretty. I'm not figuring on big yeilds for me next year, ground still dry.
So I've did some figuring, so I'd have an idea for next year. I'm looking at n the lower cost side. My numbers come out for Milo about 9.65 for a generic bicept and I can get Milo for $75 a bag. My phos runs about 46 cents a pound and. Nitrogen
Around 50 cents a pound. My glyphps is. About $3 an ac with the ammo included.
I can get RR1 beans for about $30 to 35, our rr2 beans for $44.
We are lucky, ground paid for have a small note on the tractor, but really need a vehicle.
I'm sure our medical traveling is just starting. They are having to use increasingly stronger super glue to attach things that fall off or break open.
I can get new 4x4 extended cab pu for 29 or new van for 19.
But figuring_using my bargin basement prices we will not make much. If I'm already starting to pace the floors...those hip dip into the bank....I don't want to think..BUT late 70 and early 80 took alot of hair offy head.
And maybe theost depressing thing....this wasn't such a great year things are bound to get better yeilds wise so where does price go ?
But...neighbor sold a quarter at sale, fairly good but no water....$5000 an acre
I don't think even medical Mary Jane would
Make that work.

Re: Depression

Farmers are special, God made us on the 8th day. We aren`t facing anything that our forebears didn`t also get challenged with. We just gotta take the money that we got and figure how to spend it wisely, if we have to eat an elephant, we do it one bite at a time.

Re: Depression
I know it may seem complicated when things are not going the way you wanted them to, but I want you to know that it will all be okay. The cause for your stress may be financial pressure, physical pain, the Covid-19 pandemic, regulations, and lousy weather. All of these impact farming significantly, and it's normal to feel something about all of this. Just know that it's all for the moment, and it will pass. Talking to someone about it can help. I highly recommend http://counsellinginmelbourne.com.au/everything-you-need-to-know-about-relationship-counselling. Their counseling is excellent.

Re: Depression
Well it is good to see Congress has finally implemented the Psycotic wing of Federal health care. That will be so helpful now.......... being 6 years late ....... welcome to the latest entry from Obamacare and the division of Rural Mental Health.
You can go into the office that Congress conveniently placed in Australia rather than have a federal employee located in the Midwest USA. We are so lucky.

Re: Depression
Well, I'm sorry you are going through a rough time. I don't even know how you can manage it. As you said, the 70s and 80s were stressful and caused you quite the depression. As a person that had depression and anxiety and still has it sometimes, I can't imagine how you could go back to the primary source. I remember how hard I tried to heal and how painful it was to follow these techniques https://fherehab.com/learning/grounding-techniques-for-anxiety/. Also, therapy was quite damaging too. And do it over and over again? I know I won't be able to handle it. But maybe you are stronger than me. Good luck.
