Diesel $3.85 at Story City
That is the cheapest diesel I`ve seen in awhile, mostly $4.19 $4.08. The cheap diesel was at a Kwik Star.
Yesterday i had to drive a truck bought at auction from central Iowa to Minnesota. The new truck owner is a business partner of the guy that I drive for, he lives in Wisconsin. The paperwork was legit, yet sketch, last minute no insurance doc. No plates, not even paper dealer plates so I stick out like a sore thumb. Last thing I wanted is get pulled over with that paper trail, the guy who drove me down was ahead of me, we were on 17, figured I`d get on 35 and "blend in with a pack" a mile away met a DOT he didn`t notice no plates, miraculously.
I got in a convoy north of Story City and all`s right with the world, then my phone rings, the guy ahead of me says "Dude! There a DOT doin` 63, 3 trucks behind him that won`t pass. You`d better slow er down" . Well, if that`s his trick, just slowing down, basically forcing everyone to pass him and reading their plates, this story ain`t gonna end well, for the only guy with no plates. I thought, I could get off at 3 and go north on blacktops, that area is my domain.
Luckily a slough of trucks got off at that Clarion turnoff and the DOT-boy was one of em, but I was aware he could do a "circle back Psaki" and get right back on behind me, i was paranoid all the way to Clear Lake 😀 The chicken coop south of Diamond Jo is southbound, but you can`t outrun their radio, my blocker said the last one was closing up shop and it was dark, no plates wasn`t so obvious. I`m getting too old for this Smokey & the Bandit ..er stuff.

Why didn't you just run the truck back in the middle of the night?... The bullhaulers would keep you company 😎
Since I left cattle hauling I've been getting spoiled with the ELD hours and loads that are legal weight... I miss running cattle out west, but the outlaw trucking thing gets old really fast.

Re: Diesel $3.85 at Story City
this a snapshot of where my trucks are via GPS/ELogs as of a few minutes ago. A very useful and needed tool to monitor and control so that we comply with rules and regulations. Stuff that we take very seriously.
while your story is cute and all , and you got away with some illegal activity…
this is the very kind of activity that creates more rules and regulations for everybody… the same regs and rules that many here, and elsewhere bemoan make it too hard to do or stay in business… the 1 creates and the 99 end up paying.
because sure as shoot’n, every instance like this that didn’t have a bad ending, some will have had a bad ending… then the public and politicians come up with more for all to comply with…
But hey, you got a couple kudos for it.
ps- not sure how your boss handles it, but out here in the real world the driver in this instance gets the citation and is responsible for the fine$$ plus the driving record black mark that stays there for 3 years. As well you would have been sitting Out of Service , side of the road waiting until it was all corrected and or someone had to come and rescue you.

SW, this was my view from the hotel in Ulysses last year. It was around noon and the street lights were on. It amazes me that the cattle and other creatures can survive in that environment.

R J - lots of factors in E L D - dot regulation = = =
Lets keep in mind, previous Gov. of Kansas , rest in peace , was President of A T A ( American Truckers Asso.) and part a family run farm to market - line haul , regional freight outfit , based in Salina , was all in on the E L D legislation , along with mega carrier outfits . MEGA Insurance Underwriters Corps. along with extensive K Street lobbying , $ealing the deal = = =
Over regulation is a yawn'R , next to CON-servative Gov. $pending , during election year politics . I see the gentleman , early retiring U.S. Senator from the Cornhusker State is getting a $300,000.oo swimming pool addition to the 7400 sq. ft. mansion that is furnished for the College President ( 1,000,000.oo salary), at U of Florida - Gainsville , of which states the project , being from donation$ of alumni ===

U of Mn president getting paid big bucks like that but she must consider it a part time job. She wants to take a corporate board position to supplement her income.
Says she can do that job on her lunch break. Former governor and a couple others, including a high powered lawyer are after her. Might be a job opening coming up.

Re: Diesel $3.85 at Story City
RG, I guess I`m wondering what regulations that I broke that are costing everyone so much money?? The owner of the truck I drove had a insurance rider, I just did not have the paperwork. I pre-flighted the truck and all lights working, however in a different truck the markers or tail lights could get "ungrounded" leading to being pulled over. I put the truck in the shop and to my relief they were all working, though from my mirrors it appeared that a couple might be out, I sure the hell wasn`t going to stop and waste time making sure, possibly alerting a "helpful officer" that would be glad for the excuse to "assist me".
I`m a Iowa driver, working for a Minnesota company, driving a Wisconsin associate of my boss`s auction purchased truck, for a short amount of time in the middle of Iowa. That`s confusing just saying it and would sound like a "shaggy dog story" to a DOT-boy who`s behind on his quota and still irate that Caseys didn`t have his favorite sprinkled donuts that morning. It was better for all concerned that I ran the gauntlet.
Safety wise what concerns me is the young pup DOT boy who was going 10mph below the speed of traffic, stacking up trucks behind that were afraid to pass. According to my blocker, he was on his laptop running license plates as a few daring truckers passed. He was on a laptop (laptop safer than texting and driving?) interfering with traffic, maybe someone should said "CITIZEN`S ARREST!! CITIZEN`S ARREST!!!".... if you are looking for something to be morally outraged about.

Re: Diesel $3.85 at Story City
It was a CMV. CMV must be registered, unless it was in a "not for hire" status. I assumed you were/will be paid for being the driver of that truck... If you did it out of the goodness of yourself and donated your time , well then I apologize. The other way it would have been legal to be in not for hire status would have been for the actual purchaser to have been the person driving it. Either way if it was not for hire the vehicle would have needed to be identified with stickers , or temporary signage stating "Not for Hire".
You can gaslight all the guys here if you want , and it looks like you even got a couple of them to buy your story...
however, if it were legit and all above board as you want to claim.... you wouldn't have needed a blocker and wouldn't have been nervous and fearful... My spidey sense calls BS.
While you got away with it, so no blood no foul , it ends up costing others , who do comply, because for every successful situation with the goal of cutting a corner , or pulling a fast one... there are and will be others that don't... those become statistics... statistics become evidence and fodder for the people K289 mentioned to lobby and pressure the different agencies and administrations and the public to affect a change or new law or regulation ... and it's always just a little at a time but over time it adds up.
aside from that... I find it interesting how you support the blue at the same time you don't.... kind of a convenience factor going on there...
