Ethanol tax credit to let expire??

There is rumblings that the 45 cent tax credit for ethanol may be allowed to expire this year. Does anyone know what the possibility is . If it does there has been a huge bubble created with inflated land and mchinery prices.

Even Al Gore says oops I don't support ethanol anymore.

Re: Ethanol tax credit to let expire??

Do you think that ending credits would shut the  ethanol industry down/ What percentage of decline do you expect in corn usage?

First, I don't beleive there is much desire to shut down alternative fuels projects. Who is going to want that? Livestock producers and oil companies?

I have always cast a wary eye at ethanol.  Depending on who you listen to, it is either a blessing or a curse.  A major change of heart at the EPA could really upset things.  It's scary to stake your future 10 or 20 years out on the whims of Washington DC.

Re: Ethanol tax credit to let expire??

A question I have is, if the tax credit expires, would it help the budget, or would there be less taxes paid by all the people that get an income from the ethanol, and actually end up making the budget worse than better.  Someone smarter than me needs to do the math on  this.

There not determined. If they were they would propose a change to their own salary amd benefits. Cut their own pensions or delay them for a couple of years. Pay fpor their own health care.

You see they can do so much to prove to the public that they are really concerned about deficits and the debt. They can illustate thast best by example. Gore their own ox to start with and then I'll tell you if they are serious.

I like that idea Kraft.  Lead by example, be watching the GOP on that one.   That is why I don't believe Al Gore, lives and talks two different stories.

Neb. brings up a good point...if the blenders credit is not renewed....do you short Deere and Monsanto?

Just google 45 cent ethanol tax credit and you will find several articles regarding this issue. DeMint and Cobern will probably lead the charge from the Republican leadership. Best keep an eye on this one . All good things come to an end sometime.
