Feb Avg. Prices for Crop Insurance

After Friday's trade, here's the quick math on how the corn and soybean prices averaged out in February. You now own a form of 'put' with these average prices as the strike price.

Dec. 2014 corn= $4.61 vs. $5.65 last year.

Nov. 2014 soybeans= $11.36 vs. $12.87 a year ago.

What do you think?

Re: Feb Avg. Prices for Crop Insurance

$140ish on corn

$75ish on beans

These are all less revenue per acre guarantees than last year . Anybody know how the shallow loss thingy works?

Re: Feb Avg. Prices for Crop Insurance

Our corn price set feb 16th at 4.53 so we are already out of the game on setting price.
The shallow loss is a misnomer, you actually have to have a huge loss to collect. Large enough that the little bit it pays won't keep the farm in business anyway.

I assumed it was a rewoeked warmed over deal like the SURE program.
