For Base acreage reallocation and CC yield update. FSA indicates that less than 10% nation wide have completed phase 1 of the new farm bill sign up process. FSA staff working around farmers tropical 2 week paradise vacations for scheduling. Anybody see an irony here?

There are alot of ironies, Big Shots with new paint and bidding on $12,000 land are also on medical assistance????    It seems to me before you get a bidding number at a land auction, you should be able to prove that you`re not on Obamacare.   Something with this new farm bill is that you get "punished" for land that you took care of and put in pasture and hay or other "none program crops".  The last farm bill they counted your hay ground as "bean acres" for payment purposes...not so this time.   I guess not much changed from the Earl Butz days of "fencerow to fencerow" monoculture, overproduction cheap food policy.  Place your bets, where she stops no one knows.

Couple of things

First. What's wrong with a vacation?

Second, the farm program is so fing complicated and convoluted I plan to wait till very close to the deadlines so I know everything I can before pulling the trigger

Third, hell it's probably not worth it anyway. Looks like a chance of slim and none for my operation to get any payments so I frankly don't a flying fudge.

Fourth, obamacare has done nothing but drive cost up. That big shot you speak of is probably using it cause he has too. He certainly isn't getting any breaks with it. So not sure your point

Fifth, there are plenty of livestock guys with base acres that will get paid for planting nothing. Matter of fact one of the county meetings I went to the sheet had two categories. One for guys that plant crops and one for guys that don't ie livestock guys with base acres

Of course Obamacare drives up the price of healthcare and lowers the quality of that healthcare too, no one with a brain in their head would argue any different.  However, Obamacare subsidizes the cost of health insurance to the individual if he is hardup enough ..or if his Schedule F line on the 1040EZ is low enough.   Now, you can be a Big Shot and have a pretty paltry amount on your Schedule F if you`re always buying machinery and depreciating it.  Then you can get earned income credit, reduced school lunches, ect ect ect ...and medical assistance/Obamacare.   Someone that`s milking the system, they don`t give a rip if healtcare costs go up, they aren`t paying it anyway...the taxpayers are.  * One caveat is some people truly need the assistance and I`m not begrudging them, but some are just milking the system for their "wants" and not their "needs".

But this farm bill`s complexity is blown waaaay out of proportion....Look, raise your yields, if you can you may never get another chance.  No one knows for sure if ARC or PLC will be the best over 5 years but, ARC will put $80 in your pocket this fall..."a bird in the hand".   Take that and you`re just gambling with the 4 years after that...The government will stick you in PLC if you don`t choose, do you think they`ll stick you in the best one?  Choose opposite.

After I listened to their shpeal at a meeting in the first 30 minutes, I`m thinking "don`t waste my time talking about PLC"  ARC is the way to go, unless it`s some goofy senario.

County averages for corn below 80 and beans in the mid 20's

Arc-co won't pay here. 2012 will drop as a low and 2014 will drop as a high so back to crap county average

Just had a blow out year that will not trigger anything even with steep drop in price

All the programs say use PLC

I highly doubt I see anything.

So you wanna trade. You give me that $80/acre and i will give you all 5 years on my ground to do what ever program you want

Just looking at the programs I'm not even sure it predicts $80/acre for the entire 5 years

As you can see. I don't really give a flipping **bleep** about this farm bill

As for obamacare. I don't care if it's subsidized or not. It's not worth it even if it is

Sorry MT, you are probably the situation where PLC would be the better choice, a high yielding farm in a county with crappy yields. But don't missunderstand I'm not saying every year is $80 under ARC, this fall will be the money shot, after that it will decline if any at all.

Will likely wait till march 31st in the PM to choose program. My understanding is the MU/TAM decision tool will update after the planting prospect report and we might have county yields by then. Also will have 2 more months of prices in the bag to help the decision tool.

Local FSA gals said to go ahead and get things lined up with what you think you will run with so when you do come in that day it's a matter of a signature

Frankly if you are farming and living off that payment then you are already in trouble.

BA, i think how the public assistance thing works is because the personal tax return shows low enuf income. BTO is paid a paltry salary by the corp.  the farm (or corporate) tax return shows the profits. the profits of the corporation don't count when applying for assistance. I've heard of guys here that get reduced school lunches for their children by doing that.

These are massive changes for the farm program and the FSA office.  There is absolutely no way that the FSA gets all this work done by these deadlines.   Many producers will be putting their name on the register and finishing all the paperwork when they certify their acres in July and August.

Everyone in their gut knows what will best be for their operation this year anyway, I would say get signed up when the FSA office isn`t so busy.  if you have remorse, you can always change up until the deadline.  I think what`s the bottleneck for many is if they have to get the shoebox out and figure out their yields if they don`t have the simple readout from their insurance agent.  Also Big Shots with 50 landlords, I can imagine is like herding cats  🙂

But I`ll say again: The livestock guy that took care of his land gets screwed again because soil conserving hay and pasture acres are "none program crops" and don`t get counted for any "sugar".
