Filling bins or sell it and be happy?

Luckily I had not sold much earlier in the year. I should have several unsold bushels after my small contracts are full. Terminal is bidding +15¢ over right now. Should i just sell the rest and be happy or put it in the bin, and wait for the potential wild ride for the next year? Leaning toward spotting most but putting a little up.

Grain bins are a wonderful tax tool.

Taxes, that will be the limiting factor in fall sales now.

steeringwheelholder,

What's wrong with pushing a few chips to the center of the table and keeping some for later? Reward the market a little and keep some to play with. Just a thought. Would this help you sleep better?

Thanks for sharing good, solid marketing thoughts,

Mike

what about the uncertainty around the new administration and possible higher tax rates for 2013 and beyond?

Yes, this is the perfect time for an ace-in-the-hole, assuming your other obligations are taken care of. It's just you against the world. Play for fun. Play for profit. Playing for profit is fun. CAN you hit the top? Take your hole card and sell half every time you think it's at the top. So you sell some on the back side. It can still be very profitable. You might not get a chance to play at this level again - though you might next year - who knows?

Very good advice from Palouser! You would stand to sell enough at the top or real close to the top to feel very good about and to make a difference. Its funny, were back in sitsuation again where market talk turns to record acres for production next year globaly.Around here acres will be record or near record levels.I am in a specialty crop area, and my advice to myself is when every body runs south, turn around and walk north!

Re: Filling bins or sell it and be happy?

1) fill my contracts

2) if it is above $8 at harvest, sell half, bin half

3) ride the roller coaster with the rest.

One thing, I wonder, it seems everyone wants to hold out until next year to sell, if they do, I bet a person would get some really good selling opportunities in November or so?
