Final planting date extension?
So, what happens when the crop insurance companies convince the RMA to extend the final planting date? Do producers plant corn or switch to beans? Remember, if the weather improves and they extend, producers are obligated to plant something, corn or beans. You can't collect just because you don't feel like planting because of the price.

Re: Final planting date extension?
Mother nature gonna move more daylight hrs and heat units into Sept and Oct?
No frost till Nov something?
June 1 is surrender day for southern Iowa, don't think they can change that, BUT could change yield deduction for the 10 day late planting period.
I'm 40% planted and am pounded in those fields. Am also eligible for the rest to be 100% PP corn as I have a history of100% corn.
Only 7 acres with fert unplanted.
Not a hard decision as I opted for the 40¢ an acre PP buy up back in March.
With water standing on fields and much more precipitation on the way no other viable option.
Round up and 2-4D is cheap weed control. In another 10 days or so the weeds root mass will hold the soil till mid summer.

Re: Final planting date extension?
Agreed Hobby...extending the planting date is not likely and not sure it
is even legal. Why would the admin want to do that, they have over
a bil bu of beans nobody wants....PP is godsend to the President imo.
Funny, he has been pretty lucky throughout his life, and maybe
that is continuing.

Re: Final planting date extension?
It should be the markets job to keep the planters rolling. If corn price was relative to the weather and the planted acres, then it would bring those PP acres back into production. We’re going to find out here real quick just how smart these traders of today really are or if they’re as clueless about agriculture as they seem to be. $3.50 N/C corn won’t buy acres that’s for sure.

Dip the seed out of the bin. Mud in 15,000 without fert or chems. Then take the harvest time insurance yield and price? Is that the way to go?

Re: Final planting date extension?
I'll step in to this, knowing that it will be unpopulare....
there are clauses in those policies about having to use
generally accepted cropping practices. Again, the way
this is going, crop ins may be on the hook for billions.
So, you just want to be very careful, and very specific
in meeting the details of coverage.
Besides, is committing a felony really worth the added
10 or 20% you are trying to get by cheating the system.
Not really, but robbing banks is never worth it and yet
it happens every day.
So, I'd suggest you can plant the corn but for goodness
sakes, switch to a real cheap corn hybrid from a real
low quality provider. You are going to need and paid invoice
if the auditors come after you. Same on fertilizer, use 60%
of your normal N rate, and forget the P/K as you don't
need it anyway, and you have to control the weeds anyway.
So, maybe you get direct inputs done for $100. No reason
to make it obvious you are gaming the system.

Re: Final planting date extension?
I`d say don`t be crooked or even "tricky" with crop insurance, just go to your agent and explain the situation. Because these days of computers and satellites and nosy neighbors, you can`t get away with much. But if you don`t take my advice and go over to the darkside, rob Ft Knox and not the dimestore ...if you catch my drift, if you`re doing 10 to 15 in the can, make sure it was worth it. 🙂

I am going to agree with timetippingpt.. I guess I was brought up and live differently than some on this board. Where your word is your bond and a deal is sealed with only a handshake. God help us if we can't be fair and honest in business and dealings with our neighbors, the people and companies we deal with. Read and understand what you're signing before giving your signature and therefore your word you will live up to those terms.

Amen, great advice! Being honest and honorable leaves a clear conscience regardless of the outcome in the end. Being dishonest just brings on more stress.

Re: Final planting date extension?
Point being planting is probably still the best option.
