Flooded Grain Bins?

Hello,

If there is anyone out there that has grain bins under water, could you let me know, please? I would like to talk to you, regarding a story that I am working on about grain management.

Thanks,

Mike

Re: Flooded Grain Bins?

While you're at it, you might verify -- if one has flooded grain in the bin, and had a 2018 crop hail insurance policy on that grain, it is (maybe) possible that your actual grain loss in the bin is covered under your hail policy up until some cut-off date, definitely worth checking.

WCMO,

Here's what I found out. However, your insurance question is valid. I will follow-up.

Full story: Flooded Corn Must Be Destroyed, Not Sold.

What say you?

Thanks,

Re: Flooded Grain Bins?

That`s really crazy, a farmer dodges the rain and gets it planted, then sprays it through the mud, busts his butt to get it harvested before the fall monsoons, dries it puts it in the bin and maybe loses a little on his cost of production. But, Mother Nature takes it away this spring anyway. I`ve seen farms that are so flat and low that they probably don`t have a choice where to put their bins, but I just wouldn`t put a bin in a area where it could flood (or just figure it`s temporary storage that would get moved asap by winter).

You see houses by the coasts that are built on stilts, maybe in those flood areas, just pour 5 feet or whatever amount of concrete in the bottom and just add a ring or two to make up for the lost storage?  On the positive side, they could unload more bushels using the downspout with the grain up higher.
