One analyst says, "The market is trading the lack of a foreseen bullish report and favorable planting weather.
"With not having another perceived bullish USDA crop report for a month and the last half of April bringing a bearish planting mindset, funds continue to bank previous crop report profits," he says. This all happens before they begin to build a weather premium in the months of May and June.
Meanwhile, the Friday soybean market is seeing buying off the breaks, limiting losses, as new export business to China surfaces every other day," he says.

At 8:01am:

They did it again!

Like yesterday, USDA announces that China bought 165,000 mt of U.S. soybeans Friday for 2012-13 delivery. This kind of news boosted the soybean market yesterday. Will it stage a command performance today? What's your best guess?

At 7:22am:

China--So, what's up? Its GDP grew by 8.1% in its first quarter, below the expectations of 8.3%, the lowest since three years, and lower than 8.9% in the fourth quarter of 2011. Consumption is increasing, but investments are lower. The real estate, railroad system, and local garment sectors are seeing investments fall, concerning economists. However, this news is not a disaster because China's growth rate is still a lot higher than most countries. Other stuff to mention involves talk about labor costs increasing in China, threatening that country's exports. Also, economists worry about the Chinese resident not making enough money to uphold needed consumption levels.

At 7:11am:

According to radar maps, it appears those areas of the western Corn Belt that needed rain received it. That could be bearish for the markets. What do you think?  Unless, of course, China buys six more cargoes of soybeans like they did yesterday. Wow, what a shot in the arm that was. More rain coming this weekend too.

Mike

----------

At 6:45am:

Early calls: Corn 1-2 cents higher, soybeans 1-2 cents lower, and wheat 1-2 cents higher.

Trackers:
Overnight grain, soybean markets=Trading mostly higher.
Crude Oil=$0.08 per barrel lower.
Dollar=Lower.
Wall Street=Seen trading lower, as fears reappear that China's economy is headed for a hard landing. The Asian country will announce its GDP today.

World Markets=Asia/Pacific stocks are higher, while Europe's stocks fall.

Had a "soft" .58" inch rain last night here in Central IA and thankful for every drop.  Most tiles are still not running.  A lot of corn went into the ground since Weds.  Take care.

Less than .15" in South Central Nebraska. Already praying for a rain & hoping it isn't a sign of things to come!

20 MPH wind today, it won't be damp for long!

Lunchbox41,

Good morning. I'll add a prayer for you and all of your Cornhusker counterparts. As you prepare for planting, are you selling any bean crop? Are you pulling the trigger on any calls or puts? What does your marketing plan look like right now?

Re: Floor Talk April 13

Wind,

How long do you think this 'soft' rain will keep you out of the field? It looks like central Iowa farmers may be stopped out until next Tuesday? Some market watchers say the conventional wisdom is that some acres could get shifted because of this delay. Is that a big enough delay for you to begin thinking soybeans instead of corn?

Thanks for sharing,

So first its bearish because its dry and people are rolling.....then its bearish because it rained......talk about a weather market........

Re: Floor Talk April 13

Clouds opened up, and it poured for a while, raining nicely right now, water everywhere.

Too bad I forgot to flip the rain guage over, as we had a freeze 2 nights in a row (but not last night) and I didn't want it broken.  I'd guess pretty close to an inch so far, with rain still falling.

Mizzou_Tiger,

Oh, this thing will show all kinds of shades of colors before she's done, you know that. You talk about this idea of "It's not what you plant, but what you grow." Because of tight stocks and folks wondering what will be left come August or first of September, the market is watching and concerned and trading both planting weather for the crops not in the ground and growing weather for those already in.

Dry as a bone in WC IN. you can see clouds of dust for miles. In my 40+ years farming I have never seen it like this before.
