Soybeans and grains were little changed overnight as there were no shocks from the crop progress report nor the crop tour yesterday. Beans were up 2 cents while corn and wheat moved less than a penny in overnight trading. The crop tour showed corn yields will likely come in below last year in South Dakota and above 2016 levels in Ohio, neither of which is surprising considering the weather in the states this year. Crop progress showed corn ratings were unchanged from last week at 62% good or excellent while soybeans were up a point to 60% good or excellent. In weather news, there's a flash flood warning along the Kansas-Missouri border near Kansas City. The National Weather Service has warned people to avoid low-lying areas as they can be underwater quickly. See all the details in today's 3 Big Things at http://www.agriculture.com/news/three-big-things/3-big-things-today-august-22.

Here's what happened overnight:

Brent Crude Oil = down 0.2%

West Texas Intermediate = down 0.1%

Dollar = up 0.4%.

Wall Street = U.S. stock futures higher in pre-market trading.

World Markets = Global stocks higher on positive economic data.

Re: Floor Talk August 22

I think the big story is IL corn G/E dropped 8 points in one week. Second largest corn producer is having big troubles, will the outlying states make up the difference?

Re: Floor Talk August 22

Does a drop in corn ratings matter now? After all, corn is made in July and we're nearing the end of august. Corn growing season is over. Of course ratings will drop 😤

Is there an echo in here,? Almost like one of us has been saying this for months. Glad that it is coming to their attention. However yes far to late and only down hill from here.

Well I found it, the area that gonna make the USDA' s numbers work..

North west Kansas and east central Colorado have what is most likely a once in a farming career event.

With the exception of just a couple of severe hail areas, that whole area has better corn crop than most in South central Iowa.

It is a huge area. Very little that will not make at least125 dryland most planted 16,000 to 12,000. Betya most hoped for 80 at planting time. Most looked like irrigated, 150 will be  common, some better than that.

From Hill City, Kansas to Kit Carson Colorado. Green and lush all the way. Proof  rain makes grain.
