Floor Talk January 3
Wheat futures rose to the highest level in a month overnight amid fears about widespread winterkill in the winter wheat crop. Temperatures for the past week have, obviously, been extremely low and some analysts are saying three-fourths of the crop was at risk for damage. Wheat added 2-4 cents, corn gained 2 cents and soybeans rose 3 cents. It's going to remain cold throughout the central Midwest today with wind chills near 25 below zero. In the southern Plains, it's still cold, but a warmup is expected as the week goes on with temperatures in the 50s this weekend. In export news, inspections for corn were up week-to-week but down for soybeans and wheat.
