There may be more to the story on ethanol
It is my understanding that the simple lack of corn shut down the plan in Albion. I guess that could be called 'poor margins' as shipping long distances is uneconomical. But when the positive basis has been very high there to encourage supplies for feed stock - and it's not enough - then it is more than 'poor margins'. It's a corn deficit.
There are corn deficit areas in the Plains states as a result of a lower crop than expected last year. However, high basis is widespread. It seems like a danger signal to me but, I can't really put a handle on it.
