Re: I know a guy who rolled a Knudsen tractor.

Palouser: When I was viewing your videos, I ran across a video of harvesting in those hills with horses in the 1930's

Re: I know a guy who rolled a Knudsen tractor.

Interesting as the clip doesn't show the horse/mule drawn combines which used up to 40 animals. And the body of the machines leveled. Also, that is fairly level ground shown. But I have an idea where the location might be. I'm interested that a stationary threasher was used so late.

On the other hand, the development of Caterpillar was closely linked to the Palouse. Almost all their early development was done in the area. They had thrown in with Holt which had manufacturing in the Walla Walla valley. The early D-6s were tested and run in the Palouse. The soft, dry summer fallow land was almost entirely worked by Caterpillars and other crawlers until fairly recently. True, some of the farmers hopped them up to 450 hp. That was done by lenthening frames and using Cummins big 6s. Though some had big GMCs and Detroits grafted in.

Here's a clip from about the same time using horse drawn combine on hills with leveling for the threshing.
