Free online field-monitoring system

Thought this might be of significant interest to the community.... The Climate Corporation's free, online field monitoring service is now available for use. 

Climate.com is a system that allows growers to identify and save individual fields to their user account (use a map to select any of 20 million + fields that are pre-loaded in the system) and then automatically tracks conditions in those fields each day through the growing season. Growers will get access to a dashboard that provides daily updates on rainfall, soil moisture, temperature, crop growth stage and yield projections for each individual field on each day of the growing season. And system access is free.

Jeff- this would be useful to us farmland owners that Custom Farm, not cash-rent there land and do not live on there farms. In fact, I live 160 miles from my 9 farms in North-Central Iowa. My Custom Operators do a good job of keeping me informed of the weather and the crops, but it would be nice not to have to bother them on rainfall amounts, hail storms, etc. I have 1,680 acres that I need to keep informed on since I recieve 100% of the crop. Obviously this is not free, so can I ask what the per acre cost is? All my North-Central Iowa farms are located within a 10 mile radius. Could you quote me a per acre cost for 1,680 acres? Thanks.

Yes, people who live a significant distance from some of the farms that they have an interest in are finding this service especially useful because it can save a lot of phone calls or driving around to check rain gauges, etc. And the service IS free. Just go to the link to sign up: http://ow.ly/iZyKO 

Then once you are signed up, use the map to click on and save the fields you want to monitor.  Good to set up your fields now before the season gets busy.  But there won't be a ton of information to view until the crop is planted and the growing season really begins.

Thanks Jeff, us absentee landowners that Custom Farm and recieve 100% of the crop are always looking for additional tools that cut down on the phone calls, e-mails, etc. Plus I hate to bother my Custom Operators when they are in the middle of planting my crop to ask for rainfall amounts, where the hail storm hit, etc. I am going to set up my farms this weekend and check it out. Thanks for the information. If I have problems I will e-mail you with the questions.
