I don't grow corn, but there are too many comments from too many farmers from too many places to discount the trend of lowering expectations. The USDA can't be ahead of the game because of responsible methodology. I believe that means a prospect of at least somewhat lower yields ahead. The yield numbers now already threaten the idea of comfortable stocks.

 

As for China, I don't believe the needs of China are 'priced in'. We don't really know what they are and they have been very good at buying when the pressure is not on. That will change. And they will not back off.

for a corn crop that had to be a homerun to rebuild stocks, i am reducing this one from a double to a single. fwiw

Watching the news about the drought and starvation in Somalia has me wondering if that will cause any significant amounts of corn to be diverted from the pipeline. At the same time I am glad we are not hearing about famine in other larger populated areas such as India.
