Garden City, Iowa

Just looked at a bean field - 15 inch rows - waist high - canopied very nicely. Beautiful beans. Population - a lot. Probably 250,000. I pulled out a plant - it took some effort. But the nodulation was great, branching was real nice, and the plant had over 50 pods, and still flowering a bit with lots of small beans just beginning to develop. But this field needs rain - real bad. I felt down in the ground where I pulled out the plant, and the ground was rock hard. I could not dig down with my fingers, and there was no perceivable moisture in those top couple inches where I pulled the plant. With rain - this field is one of the best I've seen this summer. Without rain - soon - this field will about pods big time.

Corn field on other side of road also looks excellent - it's fenced - I'm not crawling through it. Aw, but Jen - take one for the team. Sorry - not this time.

South of Des Moines, the lack of moisture is fairly evident in some fields. But it all needs a drink, or we go backwards - soon.

OK - here we have moisture. Roadsides are green, ponds are full. Water is standing in puddles on gravel roads. The bean field I looked at was muddy, and I had to take off my crocs to get back in the car. Again, 15 inch rows, not quite as developed as what I saw at the last stop, but impressive. These beans were going down, where they were standing tall they are up to my chest. I was going to dig down and see if I could find dryness, but I have no tools on this trip. It looks like these beans had stopped flowering, and now there are a bundle of flowers, especially on the top of the plant. 50+, easily, especially if they keep getting the rains.

On to KC before rush hour.

Re: Garden City, Iowa

The question is----- Were the beans up to your chest or is your chest down with the beans. Lol.

Now if your 6 feet 4 they may be impressive beans but if your 5 foot two not so much,

AND if you're the size of that feller on the island that said "da Plane da plane" they may barely get their seed back.

Re: Garden City, Iowa

Yeah - I know. But as Hobby can testify, that's not the case. Thinking of how high a sheet of plywood comes up on me, they were about that tall - 4 feet
