Gasoline marketing in Iowa

2014 marketing year...

Total gasoline used in Iowa 1.498 billion gallons

% breakdown:

E-10 84.7%

NON-E 14.1%

E-85 .81%

E-15/20 .26%

Surprised that barely 1% of usage is something above e-10??,

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

Hobby If we look at it your way the numbers sure look depressing. But if we look at it by adding up all ethanol treated fuel the numbers look much better at about roughly 86 %. Then the 14 % looks small. Glass 1/2 full versus glass 1/2 empty type of view. Not to sure what the future might look like though if a new administration headed by someone like Cruz was to crash the ethanol mandate. Personally I ALMOST always fill both my FFV with E85. Even yesterday passing through Spencer Iowa when the difference in price was about 25 cents i STILL use it. Even though it is costing me some loss. I clearly remember a few years back when crude was well past 100$. The difference at times was out to about a dollar saved E85 versus E10. BUT for some reason I have some neighbors that farm much more and are always in line at the local e plants selling corn, and owning shares in ethanol plants but do not use the product in their Identical FFV pickups. Now go figure that one out????

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

Sorry if you got the wrong impression from my post.

It is year old stats.

I have a flex fielder too

Maybe the 2015 stats will show its usage.

Not surprised at the 15 to 30% numbers , I haven't seen a blender pump on any of my travels in Iowa.

Have found them in South Dakota...used them at the 85% legal

Kim&Go convenience stores are the only place to get e85 that I know of in southern Iowa. Never been a line to the yellow handled pump.

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

I still believe the best way to increase ethanol use is to build engines designed to burn E-85 or E-100, not try to modify a gasoline engine to burn a blend of ethanol.  This explains it far better than I can.

The first E-100 pick-up or tractor at a machinery show will get a lot of attention.  JMO.

Just trying to "think out of the box" to move a little more corn, and that was not my vision, I just agree with it.

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

better yet just strip 1 oxygen off co2 and run liquid carbon monoxide fuel.

don't need oil, don't need e either.

use nothing but solor panels to convert the co2  heck produces electric and fuel at the same time...as long as the Sun Shines.

Germans btw, perfected running liquid carbon monoxide fuel in WWI.

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

10% 0f 84.7%  =  8.47

85% of .81% =      0.68

20% of .26%=    0.052

Total of 9.10%  times 3/4 price differential    6.8 % of fuel dollars being spent on ethanol

Of a $2.00 gallon of gasoline that is $0.10 cents per gallon of gas spent on ethanol ---- excluding the the governments 47 cents

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

Lots of opportunities out there.  Gas around here at $1.68 gal. (E-10) Looks like the best deal at the moment.  Around here the weather has been giving us more "moon shine" than "sun shine" as of late.

Lots of clouds and high humidity outside.

Re: Gasoline marketing in Iowa

Wright  ------- Maybe that explains why Germany is now importing importing 1.8 million barrels of crude oil----- per day.

I have perfected several bright ideas that don't work once I leave the house....
