Re: Get Used To $4 Corn

I did not explain my theory right.  Inflation is the real money maker for many farmers, $500 Per acre land to $2500 per acre land to $8000 per acre land.

Well, I believe the future inflation can also cause grains to find new highs in price. Inflation starts slow then gains steam and then peaks.  Almost always with deflation later.

Are grains at the start of inflation cycle?  I believe that until major interest rates  hikes take place, inflation will be a factor in the market price of grains. Long term markets prices now, may not factor this in.

Re: Get Used To $4 Corn

I agree with you Jim that caution is part of farming. I just think this guy is using too long a time frame with too specific of examples and seeming to tack them on to the continuation of today's conditions. In that respect I think changes he speculates about are theroretically possible but not relevant to any actions anyone might be taking today. For that matter, surviving the next 5 years might be the issue for any individual farming right now - regardless of what prices do.

In other words, surviving near future events will be required to be in a position to need to worry about speculative events further out. On the other hand, China is already leasing land in Subsaharan Africa and we'll soon see how that venture works out. Somebody may eventually risk money in Congo but it would look like the very last place somebody would do so at the present time - even if a repeat could be done there using Brazil as an example.

Re: Get Used To $4 Corn

The congo is not that far fetched.  Is it that far from the southern amazon drainage basin, compartively.  Or the crossing of panama.

In the grand sceme of things, tribes come and tribes go.

China leases in Ukraine was a story this year -------------- That area does not produce anywhere near potential.  A little political change would fix that.

Those posibilities are not as wild as thinking $4 corn means anything.

If expenses need $6 corn.  If it takes 500K to buy the family car.  The doom and gloom guys thinking we are headed to $2 corn are dreaming------ we will never get there or care if we do.

I really would like to see that if costs are rolled back to $1.50------- but that really is beyond possibility.

The obvious trends are scary enough for me. -------- Socialized agriculture looks possible.  If new technology is expected to manage health care for the second largest population in the world.  Why can't it manage the food supply?

We are in love with our new electronic devices and Government is anxious to tether us to them.

Socialized agriculture looks 'possible' ? Haven't we already signed up for it ?

Congo may have exactly the same soils as the Amazon for all I know. But the history is brutal imperialism, constant warfare and inneffective and corrupt government and rebellions that are tribally related. And they have modern weapons. This is a history unlike Brazil. Brazil was loaned billions by Japan to develop an alternative source of food after its supply was interrupted by US embargos and market disruptions. Nobody will loan Congo money expecting anything to come of it.

I do fear the future of the country as essentially ALL communications, business and records have a digital component and an intelligence community that can't limit itself and essentially no functioning courts that can challenge its actions. A secret court with no plaitiff is no court at all.

Re: Government is the enemy!

That is the greatest contribution that Reagan the great left us with. The notion that government is the problem. A blanket of cynicism and negativism recklessly cast upon the people. That is what all great conservatives offer america. The Limbaughs the Reagans the birth of modern cynicism. That government does too much for people that that capitalism fails to do. Offer them jobs and living wages and benefits.

You can't be for lower wages and less government assistance. You simply can't have both! It's economically impossible. The low tax job creators are not creating jobs. Why subsidize an activity that doesn't bear results. Trickle down is just another term for piss on you poor folks.

There was a time when the Ukraine was considered the bread basket of europe. I think that was pre communism.

Kraft I think your ok -------------- then you prove me wrong.

A true socialist ------ rewriting history to fit your agenda.

"That is the greatest contribution that Reagan the great left us with. The notion that government is the problem" your quote.

I am pretty sure that "notion" was around when in the late 60's  when campus demonstrations were going on and young people shot young people at Kent State U.

Have some fun in 2014.
