Getting rid of RFS?

https://www.reuters.com/world/us/bipartisan-us-bill-aims-eliminate-corn-ethanol-volume-mandate-2021-...

snip:

NEW YORK, July 20 (Reuters) - A bipartisan group of U.S. senators introduced legislation on Tuesday that would eliminate a national mandate requiring oil refiners to blend corn-based ethanol into their fuel mix - a proposal that would slam corn growers and is likely to face vehement opposition from the farm lobby.

Republican Senator Pat Toomey from Pennsylvania and Democratic Senator Bob Menendez from New Jersey, part of the group introducing the bill, represent states with oil refineries that claim the mandates are expensive and threaten refinery jobs.

Lawmakers from both states have been pushing the Biden administration to relieve refineries of their obligations under the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard, which was enacted to expand the market for U.S. renewable fuels and boost energy independence.

Use 12% mandatory

No rins tickets just simple use.

E just cleans air.  There's no brown cloud in those major metro areas where E is used... Specially in the fall winter and spring.

Re: Getting rid of RFS?

no BA ----- it is Reuters,  a China propaganda release to lower corn prices before our harvest.

Lets follow this and see which sewer it slips back into.

Re: Getting rid of RFS?

No American blood has been shed defending our ethanol supply.
Sorry, but you can’t say that about oil.

Re: Advanced biofuels? Like what?

Even with the carbon inefficient way we process corn into ethanol, it only generates 8 lbs of CO2 per gallon of ethanol produced compared with 24 lbs of CO2 per gallon for gasoline components from petroleum.  And that doesn't even take into consideration the improved thermodynamic efficiency due to ethanol's octane value or the cleaner air.

Furthermore, if we adopted the simple expedient of requiring ethanol plants use biomass for their process heat and power we could cut that 8 down to 4 lbs of CO2.

But like the article said, "

The Advanced Biofuels Business Council spoke out against the bill on Tuesday.

"This proposal does nothing for advanced biofuels and we do not appreciate being used to greenwash a top priority for a handful of the dirtiest oil refineries in the country," said Brooke Coleman, the council's executive director.

Re: Getting rid of RFS?

A few months ago I heard analyst say (about the grain rally) "all the government has to do is kill the RFS and the rally ends".   Well, all this talk about inflation and economists seem to have a irrational fear of inflation, this could be one of the ways to "Whip Inflation Now" ahead of the 2022 mid term elections?

Perhaps the USDA & NASS privately are telling the administration and key senators "Look, folks, this crop isn`t there, we`d better increase carryover"...(or not run out) .     The return of the food vs fuel debate.    Well, some tails were twisted at OPEC to throttle up on oil production....cheap fuel? ....check!  and now let`s work on food prices.

I think China

Rules the roost so to speak.

They've got tons of hogs to feed... That takes corn.

Obviously they Never were the globes number 2 corn producer.  As so long previously touted in the past

Corn market overnight up 4.   Here`s Joe Vaclavik`s take on it, doesn`t think it`ll go anywhere.
