Re: HOW IT REALLY IS
okdon quote "GMO's are special in that they are splicing genes from unrelated species and we do not know the long term hazards of that."
I am pretty sure don knows this is a lie(GMO's are special) enhanced by another lie (we do not know the long term hazards).
But it does point out the enabling issue we seldom discuss. The issue that makes the controversy popular.
How little we know about our own history and how little science knowledge the general public gets in our school systems. We are so science ignorant that we fall for statements like this that are false...
Nearly every basic food in the grocery store has undergone genetic modification over its life. No matter how they are labeled. Labeling has become a price enhancement.
What recent technology genetic modification research has done is not something that has never been done before under human direction or in nature itself. What GMO research has done is speed up the processes, specified the modifications, and created opportunity to test the results quicker and specificly enough to gain consistent results.
The shotgun approach we have used in cross polination historically was much more likely to create undesired results.
But the real discouragement in this subject is how the public is being pushed away from the accomplishments we should be proud of.
Fear is profitable...... both financially and politically.

Re: Other than North Korea
This is a list of countries with the largest death rate from malnutrition. That might answer the question to a degree. Politics --- I am not sure how politics fits.
