Re: Happy Independence Day
BA, the way things are in America right now, half of the country should just go fishing in Canada today and not be hypocrites about celebrating something they no long believe in.
As for me, God Bless America! and each patriot that risked their necks for our freedoms. I woke up looking out the bedroom window over a deep lake with fish in the bucket from late last night, and a cool breeze blowing.
Thanks for the founding fathers, and for their legacy!

Re: Happy Independence Day
to add rsbs................. thank them for their intelligence and knowledge of history and governance around the world.
knowledge our modern day voters couldn't find even on a cell phone search. We live in a time when information sourcing has never been easier and factual information has never been harder to find.

Re: Happy Independence Day
Don`t know if the current commander-in-chief could be trusted with any kind of weapon, but with the "fake running" he does he must think he could pass the Air Force physical fitness test.
snip:
Biden received five student draft deferments and a medical exemption
Born in November 1942, Biden came of age amid the Vietnam War. But unlike millions of men of his generation, he never served in the military.
Biden received five student draft deferments, first as an undergraduate at the University of Delaware and later as a law student at Syracuse University.
And after a medical exam in April 1968, he received the "1-Y" classification, which meant he could only be drafted in a national emergency.
Biden released his Selective Service records to the Associated Press in 2008. At the time, a spokesperson said he was "disqualified from service because of asthma as a teenager," per The News Journal.

Re: Happy Independence Day
hence the title "Captain Asthma".
joe wore that title proudly while telling all the young ladies about his prowess on the gridiron, too. You think he has a "prom queen" in the past that told him to get lost, too?

Re: Happy Independence Day
Knowing what we know about Vietnam, I`ve always thought perhaps the hippies that protested it weren`t totally wrong...perhaps they opposed it for the wrong reasons. The teenage mindset that I had, I would`ve went to Nam if I was in that age bracket, that`s not to say I wouldn`t have immediately regretted the decision the moment the bullets started flying. 🙂 My thought has been one thing about Nam rightly or wrongly at least I could go over and legally kill communists, and that`s not a completely bad thing 🙂

Re: Happy Independence Day
BA, I actually sat down with the Marine recruiter, took the officer ROTC tests, and was on their radar for almost ten years until I got too old for flight training. They would call up every three or four months and ask if I had rethought signing up.
Thing is, if my father had been younger and healthy, I probably would have. I have never been afraid of death. Cowards die many deaths, and whether it is bone spurs or asthma, or college deferments that you hide behind.....you still have to look in the mirror and see what looks back.
I remember just graduating, and a 30 year old bully at a beer party started in on me...hazing the skinny 18 year old. I finally had enough, and told him....."lets go outside, I am not going to take anymore of your crap" and looked him in the eye, and he bolted. Literally ran away. Don't ever remember running away after that....and I have a few broken bones as proof, but you can never hide from yourself.
