Re: Hard to imagine a worse scenario

There's a further subtext to this.

Any illusion that the Fed is independent has been shredded.

"The Market" has no confidence* in the one man who's in charge of everything. That was made completely obvious on Fri. when the indices went down while the POTUS was speaking and didn't catch a bid until "the experts" took over.

*a fickle beast- had 110% confidence when the wind was at their back.

Maybe  a  continuous  playing  of  '''  Don't  Worry  -  Be  Happy  '''  at  the  next  political  rally - maybe ?

Re: "Patriotic suspects", case in point, Okalahoma governor Stitt.

One suspect clearly Okalahoma would be better off without, who tweets, "eating ...with my children...it's packed" turns out to be the same guy who doesn't believe in vaccinating his children.

As I commented about over at Forum.

You could reasonably make the case that we should just carry on and sacrifice whatever hundreds of thousands or millions of mostly vulnerable citizens- since the consumer must keep on consumin' and the markets must keep on marketin'.

Or you can go on lockdown and try to mitigate the severe economic damage.

But doing both, badly, simultaneously is the craziest thing ever.

To the point that our extreme polarization might indeed kill us yet.

Actually or metaphorically, or both.

Successful  appeals for abdication will not be a feature of the legacy and the end story.
