Hey 56, you were talking about using the government to line their pockets.
You were talking about those in government using government to line their pockets. I guess they don't mind helping their friends either.
The Senate Republicans inserted this little stinker in the Coronavirus relief bill.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/04/14/coronavirus-law-congress-tax-change/
It's only worth $90 billion to the millionaire class. Makes my few thousand dollars of program money look like chump change.

Re: Hey 56, you were talking about using the government to line their pockets.
That is real stupid journalism.
Stating the obvious and trying to make a dramatic point of worthless opinion....
First -- The folks who make the most, pay most of the taxes...... as they should, always have and will have to forever and a millennia the way this congress steals from the taxes. And when your trying to save jobs your going to have to assist the employers.
Second -- Those who pay no taxes.... get no tax breaks....... as they should, they get the ultimate tax break, no taxes and 60% of a normal wage given to them without the requirement of work. Of course, your right.... all the benefits they recieve come from Taxes paid, to which they make no contribution. This is the congressional folly...... create needy so we can soak the rich.....
We are too stupid to live in a representative republic...... and it begins with journalists who will print what they have to to hold a job. Fools.

Re:Did you even read the article?
It concerns a tax loophole that had been purposely closed by the trump tax cut because it had been deemed eccessive even by republican standards as the wealthy had received a 20% tax cut as it was. It looks to me as if the purpose of this provision is essentially indemnifying stock market investors for their recent losses. When you think about it, that's pretty good deal, you make a risky investment in the stock market and when it goes bad, the government covers your loss.
Just the other day Perdue was lecturing dairy farmers who hadn't joined the market loss program about not expecting the government to bail them out ( aka. re-open the program) because then they might get the idea that the government would always cover their losses.
I guess with the republicans their capitalist principles are more flexible depending on who you are or more likely how much campaign contributions you make to the right people.

I used to advise people to always take in the mail for elderly relatives and discard anything that had Freedom on it so they wouldn’t get scammed.
Kinda trolly. St. Pete?

Re: Re:Did you even read the article?
SO either all the democratic senators that are now complaining about it, never read the bill in the first place and just voted for it, which makes you wonder if they are lazy or just don't care. Maybe all this hand wringing is for their base, to let them know they got their back. Democrats are the majority in the house,in case anyone forgot. Has it changed, it used to be their was more democratic millionaires in the Senate and House than Republican millionaires in the 2 chambers. So I guess this bill benefits both sides of the aisle and not so much the working class.

Communists always hate Freedom, now don't they?
Btw...below is the FDA's list of current drug shortages, including anti-psychotic medications.
Perhaps one or two of your meds might be on that list, Hollow?

Re: Liberal Paragons of Virtue-Signaling
To give it a bit more serious note even though you can't get any more comical that "pass it before you read it, Nancy" who chases a crisis like an ambulance chasing lawyer.
Trump is wonderful vision of .... the Voter still makes a difference. My grandsons have a chance to participate in leadership...... Nancy and the press had convinced me that they could appoint and fund their candidates into every seat in congress, no matter what state or location. The voters have no say, or even identity for that matter, in their gilded world of self appointed leadership. So much so that I have felt for several years that we were close to 1917 Russia with its poor masses in arms against intrenched corrupt leadership. The only thing keeping it at bay is the congressional payoffs. Building the welfare state was probably essential for maintaining power-- along with cheap food and drugs.
But really, comical lipstick aside, my biggest concern is that we have jumped from agrarian to urban society in such a short time and in spite of Trumps patriotism(which should be common to most americans and not just to immigrants who want to believe what they read in history books)--Our system is founded by intellectual agrarians and requires personal responsibility and independent thought, principles being destroyed in education these days. Todays data is screened for outcome to the extreme. Growing employer numbers for example are recorded as private economy only for effect and separation, while we all know that federal and state bureaucracies have been the largest job creaters in urban settings. Much of urban development as far as transit and public service are done to support government bureaucracy expansion. Short........... the urban voter sends a different candidate to office, many of which do not support our constitution and form of government developed by intellectual agrarian societies of the 1700's. They do not have the intellect or opportunity to support themselves independently from their neighbors. It may be a perception or a reality, but it creates a mindset of need for social services and congressional control and destroys independence.
The rural society has collapsed under the weight of federal regulation. Health care being the most recent. Pharmacy selections at the federal level have crushed small town pharmacies by(in effect) excluding them from medicare patients and other federal programs in favor of the nation wide mega pharmacies who build only where it makes economic sense. Independent home town Medical Doctors are being pushed out of the healthcare picture in favor the traveling script writers who drop into the local hospitals like missionaries on assignment.
Short the urban society wants the federal handouts and has the votes and seats in congress to rule...... any pipe dream agriculture folks have of the old independence and "free market" philosophy is just a pipe dream to keep the acre planters involved. Look for your local federal employees at usda and epa to get even more demanding and "in control" as they take charge of "keeping us safe" after this virus "opportunity" matures.
Things change........ and we have to change with them. Enjoy Trump...... a president that acts Presidential (patriotic, proud and working for the rights of the voter, not controlled by the pipet strings of a political master in the smoke filled Press rooms), but remenber that billions continue to be funneled from tax payer borrowed funds to keep political organizations funded in spite of their work to nullify the vote of an election. You cannot be more treasonous, yet much of our urban population and bureaucratic employees continue to support organizations that "bring home the bacon".
Will we have public schools after the virus......maybe not........... in truth if you take away entertainment(sports) and daycare... there wasn't all that much education hidden in there. A kid with an iPad had a better shot at preparing for a place in the future job market. This coming from a person who lives in a town with 6 new schools built primarily because the federal funds and rediculously low interest rates were provided. (some of those schools were built long before the streets to them and after 2 years. It is still nonsense getting in and out of school.) -- and frankly they may not be needed as the rural society keeps leaving.
Will we have friends outside the internet............maybe not.
Well we need federal government's oversight even more........... guaranteed

Re: Liberal Paragons of Virtue-Signaling
Good Post, SW, thanks for taking the time to write that. Trump is like a Kennedy, without any of the charm, but he looks like a diamond compared to what the opposition puts on the table and wants their choir to wear and polish.
Having said that, I feel that this latest printing of money spells doom for the USA as we knew it. I don't know what the plan is for three months from now, three years from now, 30 years from now....most likely there isn't one. What I am pretty sure of is that you cannot print money and inflate your currency as a means of prosperity. If this is orchestrated with a goal in mind, maybe it should have been debated and a record maintained.
The entitlement crowd, those with social security , medicare, and a modest retirement plan that are currently living pretty well, are going to take a hit as there just isn't going to be resources available to double their entitlement benefits, which is what it would take to keep them living the standard they enjoyed. Maybe with a world wide lockdown, they won't be able to take European vacations anymore regardless, and maybe steak and shrimp won't be available either.
It's a brave new world, and we may all be eating soylent green.
