Hey Okies how is wheat and canola from freeze and dryness???

Well I confirmed canola conditions here in north central oklahoma !!! Pioneer variety falling real bad literally!!! Stems breaking Midway down And falling to ground!!! Dekalb not as bad but still noticeable!!! Called Crop Adjuster to get some insight!!! Confirmed Pioneer not as winter hardy as Dekalb !!! I believe we will see damage to wheat next week early or mid week !!! Wild rye heads are turning white??? That's good 😏!! Wheat was boot stage when temp. Hit a low of 24 for over 2 hours😬

Grain head turning white is a classic sign it will be just a husk because of frost. I've also seen it from disease at the base of the plant progressing to the point the stem won't support the head. If it's disease quite often you can pull on the stem and examine where it breaks off and look for a dark area there. Or pull up the crown and look for dark areas at the base of the stem.
