Re: Hey guys some good news from Brasil

When comparing how many gallons of fuel we get from oil and how many gallons we get from grains, it appears to me that on a percentage basis grains get a much larger piece of the pie in terms of subsidies.  Everyone wants to just point at the dollar amount of subsidies each industry gets without breaking it down to what percentage each supplies.

If we're to make energy part of national security, it should be subsidized.  However, we're not using it as national security as witnessed by exporting ethanol and selling rights to oil and gas fields to China in Texas.  Both industries should lose their subsidies.  When one reads about the amount of ethanol we've been exporting to Europe, etc.; it kind of waters down the purpose of energy independence.  In 2008, there was a huge gap between gasoline and diesel prices.  The reason was the amount of diesel we were exporting.  If we're not going to keep supplies here in the U.S., it seems rather foolish to continue subsidizing these industries.

Re: Hey guys some good news from Brasil

According to Congressional Research Service:

"Concern about exports of United States crude oil, gasoline, diesel fuel and home heating oil

periodically draws Congressional attention to the level of these exports, recently observed to

increase from 1.4 million barrels daily in 2007, to nearly 1.9 mbd during January-September

2008."

According to the Department of Commerce:

"The top growth exports for industrial supplies in 2008 was fuel oil"

I can remember not that many years ago when it was cheaper at times to feed corn than it was hay.
