I remember when I said something similar when SF changed to the format just dumped from a format similar to this. I did adjust.

I think the key in this transition will be the ability to see the main discussion page in a linear format and change easily to a threaded format when choosing a specific topic. I hope.

I agree! I'm not a regular poster but I read the marketing page a lot. I have found that I don't visit much since this format change. BTW: Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since we've put any seed in the ground. NW Ohio

What I find difficult, is when a thread has been on display for a long time, it is hard to find the new posts and skip the old posts. I find myself paging through all the old responses just to see a new post in between the mess.   The old format was easy because the list of responses where available on its own with the dates and poster names.  I feel that change is necessary.

This is nothing like Agtalk...this plain sucks.  I have been visiting for almost 10 years now everyday and this is the first time I came here this week!! That out to tell you something.....what the hell was the point in changing the format this drastically?? What was wrong with staying with the old format?  Hell when I was looking at vrbuck gann time post I couldnt even tell what date it was on when reading it unless I looked at the main page.

So tell us webmasters....how is the website traffic this week compared to say a month ago??

One can do a lot with the settings.  For example, you can change the number of topics you see per page.  You can change the order of the topics and that is different from topic view and linear view.

For example, when this forum or group was on topic view, the default message order was "newest" first.  When the editors changed this to default to linear view, the default message order was "normal" (whatever that is).  You can set it to be "newest" first if you want to skip old messages.

I'm still playing around with the settings, but there is a lot of individual control.

For example, I really don't care about anyone's political and such feelings, so I turned of "signatures".  I figure it probably loads faster.  I also have played around with font size to get more on a page.

I also turned off the Twitter feed, which has already been discussed.

Part of the change is just getting used to the new format and part of it is learning how to change it to our personal style.

Jim's right that there is a great deal of control you can have over your own view of the forums.

We have also just not changed the Marketing forum so that the order of threads is sorted by the original post in the thread. That way, replies do not "bump" to the top. I think this will make things a bit more easy to keep track of for readers.

Palouser, I agree with you that the ideal would be Linear view for the main board, then the topic (aka "threaded") view for the individual threads. The forum software does not allow that currently. We are looking into it, however.

Ray, I'm sorry to hear your frustrations with the new forums. I hope you'll stick around, especially because I think we've got some really great people posting good info here.

We are making changes based on feedback, and I encourage you to share any things you'd like to see. We can't answer every single request, but we certainly do want to alter the forums as much as possible to make it better for you all.

I didn't like it at first but now wth linear view I like it. You just have to get used to it .
