Re: House passes farm law extension

great post kraft-t.  might not be the most popular take on things, but very true.  the war on religion or christmas or whatever war people are claiming this week seems a bit blown out of proportion.  you can participate in any religion you can find or make up for that matter in this country.  your church also gets to exist tax free along with tax benefits to assure that it has no financial trouble.  glad to see someone point out that the church going man might not have it so bad.

Re: House passes farm law extension

With few exceptions Boehner has not allowed for a floor vote until the majority of his House party members agreed -which they haven't been able to do on many things - and refusing to let bills come to the floor even if there was a majority of Dems and Repubs to pass it. Many times bills were allowed to come to the floor to be defeated, even though the outcome was known, in order to make a political point already made.

Yes, if Boehner has made the choice to allow votes to come to the floor to be voted on and passed by a majority - even if it isn't a majority of his party, then a major change has been made and the function of Conress may begin to return.

We'll see.

Re: House passes farm law extension

You sir, are an enemy to freedom and anything that is good and decent in America!  You really need to read and study the constitution and the founding fathers' writings.  And futher, there are no absolutes outside of the Bible.  Bible even promotes your freedom to be an athiest or whatever religion you believe in.  But be assured their is a judgement day for all of us.  Will we have rejected him or accepted him.

Open your eyes to the cultural anti-christian mindset.  It is singled out like no other religion.

To even suggest religion gets a subsidy is....is..... just out of this world!!!!

I for one agree with you Kraft-t...... There is no assault on religious freedoms IMO....But there does seem to be a lot of people that want to force there religious beliefs on others...... FWIW....... p-oed

Time, ....

You like to put words in other's mouth. You miss by a wide margin, as usual. I live in a democratic country, you live in a socialist country without freedoms by your own description. You are capable of exageration and sensationalism. I don't see the point of it.

It's true that the far right wing has crippled Congress and the 'Farm Bill' is a great example of that. For once I'll go with Boehner on the effect of that. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/12/politics/budget-boehner/   Crippling the legislative process isn't a solution IMO.

Re: House passes farm law extension

Uhm the " tax subsidy" is no different than one enjoyed by green peace, the boy scouts or any non profit group. But with that said the minute Churches gave up their freedom of speech for the "tax subsidy" they placed money before consciousness. Bad trade!

Re: House passes farm law extension

BS palouser,

No one is crippling congress by failing to support bad legislation ---------- Write a farm bill that is affordable and beneficial, without political payoffs, make it clear how it benefits all the public etc etc etc

If it does not pass it is because congressmen from many parts of the country do not think it is good for their area ---- The answer is it is not good legislation.  Simple as that.  Stop demonizing congressmen who are not on the take yet.

Stop blaming new congressmen who are representing the public that elected them.

If we were actually trying to write a farm bill that represented the best interests of our country as a whole it would sure help, instead of just writing whatever will buy votes and keep the spending going.

Re: House passes farm law extension

I maintain that when legislation that would pass by a majority on the floor but is held up by a minority then it can cripple legislation. Good legislation. Obstruction by a minority as a way of not doing business is not carrying out the people's will. It's hard to argue the people's representatives get to vote the interests of the people who elected them if a minority can block it from going to the floor.

The House majority is divided into two minorities on many matters. How long has the House had the Senate version of the Farm Bill? They don't like it? Fine, write another and put it to the floor. They haven't been able to do anything to get anything to the floor. If that was the only bill that was held up I wouldn't be too worried.

There is a reason Boehner is now taking a different position. Boehner finally did NOT listen to the very right wing of his party and let the majority on the floor (Republican and Democrat) pass the budget for at least a temporary fix that gives a LOT of time to solve the issues legislatively.

Maybe you want minority obstructionism. I don't. In general, I don't think the American people do either.
