Household Plumbing Question-----OFF TOPIC-----OFF TOPIC-----OFF TOPIC
The existing copper plumbing in my house is due for an update and will receive it in the very near future. My question being should I replumb using cpvc pipe and components or use the newer system of the pex components and being able to utilize the water distribution panel with the ability to isolate individual fixtures should a future problem arise? I was under the impression the pex system was the way of the future but have received mixed reviews when I ask the same questions locally.

I don't know about any harmful effects from the plastic but that pex sure is easy to use. One thing though, you can get plastic or brass fittings for it and although more expensive i recommend the brass ones.

I highly recommend Pex pipe. Snapping together fittings rather than soldering was disconcerting, especially if leaving the house a few days, but so far so good. They say pex handles freezing better than copper pipes. As far as safe to drink out of, I`m sure they are tested, but if you`re concerned just let the tap run a few seconds to get the settled water out of the system and don`t drink out of the 'hot water" tap.

Shaggy -- I was more wondering about you thinking about the plumbing in the middle of the night.

BADEERE, I'm not even considering copper. Either CPVC or Pex. After continuing to ask around locally and comments made to this thread I'm leaning towards the Pex system using the brass fittings.
Thanks to everyone who commented. Next question, is anyone available for a couple days that is interested in a plumbing job. LOL

Knocked off a couple hours early today because the oldest is home from college on spring break. Haven't seen him for a couple months. You'd think he was going to school 4 hours away instead of 45 minutes.
