How does your corn look

Jump to solution

We are in NC Iowa and pleasantly surprised with our corn. All is emerged with an excellent stand. Our bean seed is still in the bag but the ground is greying up on top and should plant fairly soon if'n it doen't rain.

WE have hardly no ponding but some of the neighbors do. Surface draining is by far the most efficient and requiring ponds to drain through inadequate tile into swollen outlets is quite inefficient and time consuming.

It doesn't matter if you have your farm patterned tiled if the water level in the river is higher that the water in your field. Anyway there is little you can do about it. What happens happens  and hopefully your losses aren't that great.

My departed father in law used to say that if he could select one day to plant his soybeans and be assured that he would get all his acres planted, The day he would choose would be June the sixth. The ground would be worked a couple of times and the early weed flush would be killed and warm weather to bring the crop out of the ground.

So fellows you have 4 days to prepare for the perfect planting day. GETTER DONE!

Here in se ND except for being behind the corn looks good a little left to plant and emerge. Done with beans (maybe?) unless the rest of the corn acres go to beans. I'd say my area is  over 80% done with beans. but there are pockets with a lot beans left to plant so its hard to tell.

The corn we planted around May 15 is up with a good stand. only two leaf. the later stuff is still under ground. We only got 50% of our corn planted and the rest will be pp. bad spring for all of us in southeastern Minnesota. The corn is all a month behind.

Kraft-t the corn is looking good here on the Michigan/Indiana line. The corn is around a foot tall many of the fields here. Its been a couple years since we've had a good corn crop here and I think we are all praying that this might be a good growing year for a change.

All the corn/soybeans should be planted in SW Mich. on sandy loam, but a lot of clay ground is too wet towork.  I've got about 125  acres of corn to plant but may not get it started this week.  Might have to go with soybeans in a couple of weeks.

NSF what part of North Dakota are you from. Here in ne North Dakota I would guess were no more than 25 to 30 percent planted and large number of acres for corn have been cancelled. Also a lot of land planted is lost to excessive moisture. Also west of us even farther behind us. What they were saying on radio there will be several million acres not planted in norh dakota even far sw nd will have pp. the percentage seeded is hard determine where some areas have fair amount seeded and go a little ways and nothing has been seeded. it's raining here again tonight and rain forecast tomorrow with chance of rain again for next week and time is running out. I also wonder how much will not be planted in canada. I think the amount of land not planted is going to have significant impact on final production for all the commodities.
