Re: Cool the market, maybe the perspective plantings report next week?

I'm betting they will report a lot more soybeans, a lot fewer corn acres but we'll see.

Re: How long?

There must be a lot of war premium in these prices, I wouldn`t mind knocking the buck & half off corn and 5 bucks off beans if peace were to break out. It seems with beans they either are stupid high or stupid low, they never want to stay in the good old $12 range that isn`t a boom/bust price where both users and producers make money.

What I am anticipating is inflation coming to an end with a thud (it`s the sudden impact that kills ya) and we have deflation.  Which could be bad for the farmer in that much less driving/ethanol usage, less Friday night steak nights, less exports as foreigners have even lower stands of living. Therefore over a 12 billion bushel production would lead to "burdensome carryovers".   As always just my opinion.

Re: How long?

All we need is a program to control the weather so we get exactly our APH each year so supply and demand stay exactly in balance at the $12 market clearing price! Failing that, commodity markets will continue to be extremely sensitive to supply/demand imbalances, with even small imbalances producing large price swings. Commodity demand is fairly inelastic. For example, I use 5 gals diesel to operate my farm, including hauling. It's my system and it works well for me.  It doesn't matter if it's $2 or $10/gallon, I'm going to need/use 5 gallons per acre.

Normally, farmers would respond to the $16 bean price signal to produce more since it should be (very) profitable at that level. But fertilizer price and availability are why it might be different this year.

Re: How long?

Maybe a Dustbowl II will bail us out?  We were dry and received about 3/4" another 1" coming today.  Cold next week, the cool and rain might keep a few from doing something stupid before the insurance dates.  High price inputs, you want to get it right the first time.
