How much corn is coming UP the Mississippi?
We were told earlier that by late July there would be imported corn coming up the river. Is it happening?

Corn might not be coming up the Mississippi, but something is going on with the bean markets.
Two days ago, beans went up and the basis went down 20 cents in southern MN. And the further you get from the processing plants, ie towards the river, the lower the price. What does that signify?

Re: How much corn is coming UP the Mississippi?
Red this might help you out some - Being that I'm not far from the Ohio - at this time - there's no need to ship beans or corn to my part of the world - Beans first - We have the second biggest Bunge bean plant 2 miles from me -- I took them my last 5 about a week ago - they told me they -- just about have enough beans bought to run till fall -- but theres a catch here -- all these big plants - do there heavy maintenance around this time of the year - that make good since - low on beans and then save a ton from biding them up to keep running - this plant -- can crush up to 200,000 bu. a day - for fun - one time I figured my total bean crop - then divided it out to see how long I could run the plant --- can't remember exact number - but was something like 15 or 20 minutes -- no BTO here , lol
So what they have is 1 months of beans to run them 2 months = new crop comeing in .
Corn about the same thing -- we don't have ethanol plants like you guys do out there or up there I should have said , look at Eddyville IA , They will probably do the same - work on or add to the plant - then see where there at on corn - Most of you may disagree with me here - but the guys I have talked to down south - has a outstanding corn crop - western TN = great 200 plus -- maybe same for GA And MS is right there too - So if you Iowa guys running late on new crop - then I would guess that new corn could be shipped from the southern state to Iowa -- I do know this for a fact that there is GA corn comeing to IN to keep them going here .
The southern boys - should be about 30 to 45 days out and then the trains will be heading this way .
This is why the basis is down in some areas - Even though we are very tight beans - I would look for a big drop in basis on beans - and corn .
My 2 cents worth

The word is ADM in Clinton is shipping corn up for LH August and Sept. Not supposed to be SA corn, just southern corn. I think they did this last year at this time too.
