I just can't believe we are nearing a bottom

We are not even half way through harvest. The crop is so massive we will need to find space for every last bushel. Those are the times every rally is met with selling and basis expands. The charts tell the tail that we are offing at dec lows if the first half equals the second half. I realize no farmer wants to hear this but they fought and Denide corn breaking 4.

Trends are friends but this is going to be a long drawn out harvest. If we burn through 2.5 billion in normal usage storage problems will be muted. Don't know if lows are in but the pendulum has swung to far I think. The pendulum swung to far when we went to 8. The swings are getting farther apart.

Re: I just can't believe we are nearing a bottom

The early soybean yields in MN are coming in pretty high - they are all early plantings though - not many of those acres out there and I think there will be a pretty good drop for the later planted beans.  I do think MN has a pretty good soybean crop coming though - corn I still think is way too high - Lots of silage coming off and none of the yields are real impressive.  130-150 is going to catch a lot of corn acres in my 4 county area.

rockhill - looking back to the hail you folks got in early August, what do you believe is the net result of the damage?

A long harvest would help set a bottom. Has worked in the past, and may/may not now.

We didn't get that August hail, main problem here has been too much moisture - especially in June.

Re: I just can't believe we are nearing a bottom

Winds & heat taking 20+%off irrig corn yields so far in sw compared to 2013.
Lots of weak acres showing up.
Appreciate it buck.
Combines will tell. --- you point is valid -- unless the trend is overdone and useage is underestimated. The lower we go the more that is likely.

Re: I just can't believe we are nearing a bottom

rockhill -  Thanks for the update.  I will toss the note I made based on your posts from August 7th and a couple contacts near Dawson and Maynard, MN.  I hear ya about the June rain.  Both May and June were wet months for us and have had a significant yield impact.

Re: I just can't believe we are nearing a bottom

That Aug. 7th post was from last year.  Have a lot of new tin and siding and shingles on the farm from that storm.  No hail this year though.

You're right - my bad.  Thanks for letting me know.  I periodically do a key word search for certain things and wrote the wrong date down for that note about hail.
