Heard that corn was down because of lowered demand and that some ethanol plants were not buying. Our local newspaper had an article last wk. that stated the Macon, Mo. ethanol plant could NOT find the corn needed so they were shutting down temporarily (no lay-offs) and were still buying to try and build some stocks. In Nov. the ethanol plant at Malta Bend, Mo. quit temporarily to also build their inventory of corn. My guess is that this is why most are scaling down on production and not totally because of profits. Afterall this is the time of yr. when gas prices surge and corn now is cheaper then it was in the fall when gas was lots cheaper. If the end-users can't find corn now what is going to happen come summer?
