If E85 is this good, E30 should be the standard

Long day trip. Both tanks burned in same day. Interstate speeds with temps 35-55. Varying terrain and negligible wind. All in all a pretty fair comparison.

E85=$1.79/gallon
RegularE10=$2.25/gallon

E85=16.4 mpg
RegularE10=18 mpg

9% reduction in mileage. 20% plus reduction in cost. Equals an 11% gain

Our commodity groups should be beating down doors with numbers like this. And just another example of how wasteful and worthless they have become.

You take a product like E30 that equals the same mileage, is a cheaper product, and is made in the USA. It's should flipping sell itself.

Again, I'm tired of Ag settling. It's time to go on the offensive. And the groups that should be doing that are setting around getting fattier and lazier. Makes it easy when you don't have to work for you budget. Just collect those automatic check off dollars.

As mentioned before, I asked for my corn check off back and will continue to do so till I see change. Wish I could do the same for beans.

I have had the same experiences with my E85 vehicles mileage wise. I am quite sure E85 saves me money and am using a locally produced fuel.

 BUT for the life of me i cannot believe why there are not more people using it. AND to make matters worse a gas station where I USED TO BUY my E85 tore out all the E85 pumps and now there are only E15 pumps. AND THAT CHAIN IS KUM&GO. From now on the only business the KUM&GO will get from me is the urinal usage business.

YUP that is right they had 20 pumps and only 4 dispensed E85 now every pump is identical E10 OR E15 or diesel. If they would have put in just 2 blender pumps I would have been satisfied  but no.

 But wait it gets worse they tore out 8 parking stalls and put in 8 TESLA electric car charging stations. Now that ticks me off as we have only 1 of those cars in the county according to the coffee shop know it alls. And of course I would have to assume that KUM&GO got some sort of subsidy to install those chargers, I will bet Elon Musk did not pay his way on that one.

By the way I also have a neighbor that has investments in ethanol, farms a bunch, sits in line with his semi at the local ethanol plants but will not use E85 even thought his pickup will run on it. His excuse is "Well i would have to fill up more often" Go figure..........

By the way getting back to Kum & Go i plan on stopping back there after a few more months have past and inquiring if the tank that used to hold E85 that now must surely have E15 in is getting more use that it did with the E85 and if the sales will cover the cost of converting the whole existing set up away from  the way it was?????

Lets see, if we went to 15% ethanol mandate would require close to 7.5 billion bushels of corn, 20% would require 10 billion bushels of corn and 30% would require 15 bushels of corn.  Would take what, 5-6 years to build the plants and infrastructure to handle the volume of 20% ethanol. Can you imagine how expensive corn seed and fertilizer would become.  Yes our prices would go up, but in the end I bet our margins would even go lower.  And then 2012 comes along and BOOM! Livestock guys would get be in a world of hurt, of course all livestock guys would be hedged like all grain growers hedged the high last year in corn and beans.  I would love to see 15%, but the market needs to work it out. In other words, if the demand is there the market will fill it.

Screw the livestock guys. It is all owned by the packing companies now anyway. They have made a lot of money off cheap grain since 2014. Time to give it back.

If the markets were functioning properly we would already have E30 as a standard.

I agree E-30 should be pushed..at least E-15.  When I was a kid when you reached 14, you got your school permit and no self repecting cool kid rode the bus past age 14.  Then on your 16yr birthday you were up at the DMV to get your license and you`d drive a jacked up Chevelle with a 396 big block or a 427 Z-28.  Today kids don`t care to drive and scoop the loop, some get a license out of necessity before they start college.  So even thought there`s 50 million more people today than back then US fuel consumption is about the same.

And consumers don`t seem to go searching for the best value in fuel anymore, I suppose you make +$100,000/yr saving a few pennies isn`t a big deal to them and to those that it is, they take the bus to their Walmart or whatever.  I think ethanol has to be promoted from the "go green" angle, because it is renewable and clean and safe and all that good stuff.  Why not take out a 1 minute informative commercial during the Superbowl?  That seems to work for Dodge Trucks.

By all means promote e 85.

But this is the most fossil fuel friendly administration in history and refiners are screaming bloody murder over what they say the current blend rules and RIN system is costing them.

As far as any major changes to the mandate, ain't gonna happen unless something very major changes. Sort of reminds me of guys sitting around the coffee shop in the '70s talking about "parity."

I can understand the charge stations going in..... one or two......... with the 110 volt access.  Not much cost and great publicity for the with it crowd.

No sense in going beyond that.... there is no competition for ethanol or gasoline from the drop cord set and the guy who plugs in has money to spend and will be hanging out at your store for up to 2 hours.  He is gonna eat....and watch the constant parade from the "Trump Pumps" of folks on their way in 10 minutes with a 400+ mile range on a bathroom stop and $40K in his pocket for being smart enough to think for himself.

Like every other store ya gotta have a "gadget rack" for the futuristic folks.

The same set of stores is probably profiting on a 20% blend being sold as 10% already.

It doesn't appear that E demand is down...  The grind keeps going up.

Are regulations in place that limit the amount of ethanol in what is sold as a 10% blend?

If not what incentive exists for a station owner to put in blender pumps and surrender control of the blend rate?
