Indiana's crop: the good, the bad, the ugly, and the unplanted

Took a couple hundred mile trip through Indiana this week. The crops looked awful most of the way. The corn and bean crops looked the best in Northern Indiana. Central Indiana is in rough shape. The crop got slightly better near the Illinois border, but overall it's pretty bad.

It`s hard to say, but that`s probably worse than NIowa and SMinnesota a couple years ago.  By this time of year there wasn`t really ponds and barren fields, they either had some "green" growing or prevent plant cover crop.  Our rain had quit in 2013 by the end of June and pretty much everybody could do something by July 4th and we had an uncharacteristic late frost that waited for the late planted beans in the fall.

That looks pretty similar to my area.  Theres 450 acres within a mile radius of me not planted, of which 42 is mine.

BA, looking at these fields I would say most farmers finally threw in the towel a while back.The heavy rains have not let up much, and even if they do, most of these fields will never recover. The pictures I took were fairly representive of the whole crop. A few good fields of early planted corn mixed with thousands of acres of poor. Northern Indiana is the exception, where record corn crops could be harvested, but they'll never make up for the large amount of acres in poor condition or not planted at all. The worst crops I seen have been in Huntington and Wabash counties where 3/4 of the corn and soybean crop looks terrible. I know we have had a spike in prices, but I'm not sure the market has fully digested the millions of poor acres in Indiana, Ohio, and Missouri. If the Pro-Farmer crop tour surveys more than just every county in Iowa, it could get interesting.

For me - What a year - Not anything like what the Boys and Gals from Misery got and still getting - But in a way here - equally bad - I think for an average _ we work about 2 days every 2 or 3 weeks around here . I have never in my days farming around here - seen such a mess in some fields - yet down the road - some of the best you could want , I have both = some really good looking stuff and some that looks like ( BAd Word here ) - I did get the planter cleaned up and put up on Tuesday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Then pulled the trigger yesterday and sprayed my beans - AND got them done - had a hour and a half on them - then ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????  Came up one of them POP up showers at a tune of another 3 tenths  - Stll have 4 rows of 28 to put on test plot - Was going to do that late yesterday after I got done spraying - but after being in and out of 100 degree temps - Ole Ken screw that idea and came home and got cleaned up and had a beer with my 2 best friends and watche the Iowa Indy car race - Heres a few pictures of some of my crappy beans - yes there is tile under them ponds - but just can't get it away before the next one comes in - yet the ponds do add some fun to just driving around on dry fields - BTW- don't laugh to hard at these pics

Wow, Indiana really is having a bad hair day.  Ken and Blacksand, can either of you guys remember if the state as a whole has had a worse crop or where would you rank it?   Sorry about that, fellas.
