Is it time for the USDA/AWSS ??????

Agriculture web based forums ----------- such a wonderful way to ask, learn, communicate, and resolve issues.  So I looked around and of course the leading publications were leading the way.  Well lets say providing a tailgate to sit on rather than leading.  Ag.com seemed to have a little structure and guidance and had the ability to hold good contributors.

agweb when I read it, and well blame flies like all the other stuff that hits the fan.  But I think it was a tug of war between entertainment and information in the minds of the writers.  And entertainment won.

Entertainment  ----personal info gossup, argument, name calling, pushing & shoving,  humor, laughs, political assumption---------you know the stuff we use to waste time.------------ all that stuff was more important than the boring information.  And when it hit the "tipping point", information was out the door along with the guys who carry it.

I share the concern of others ------- If there is no trimming of the sales or hand on the rudder, what keeps an interesting web site from passing the gas that empties the boat ------------ or just hitting the inevitable rocks.   And to that some would say "death is inevitable, move on."  --------- What a waste.

Is it time for the USDA to serve a usefull function for web agriculture?   Since it provides monthly entertainment for those in the marketing trade ------ you know, so the bean counters don't just take over and bore us to death,,,,,,, and the corn counters, etc etc.

How about a department bureau.  Well lets give it a name USDA Agriculture Website Social Services.

It seems parents of ag web sites are not going to do parenting in public.---- understood, liability and all, us paid web site folks will hide behind the "freedom to web like a moron act"----- fed agency need created......  expensive fed paid counceling will follow.

We live in such a irresponsible world and we have thousands of federal agencies to help us with that.  We are so lucky we don't have to carry all that responsibility arrrrrrrrooounnnnd.............Sorry nearly fell asleep there.

What do you think -------- seems like we are headed for the rocks, just at a slower pace?  Or are we just "moving on"????

Anybody give a hoot about this boat??

It sounds like you are taking the advice of the famous "Wat Color Is Your Parachute" book that college kids use for job hunting.  That is, the best job is the one you create yourself.

It sounds like you'ver written the job description and that would mean you are first in line for the position.  What kind of salary did you have in mind?

At the job level you are describing, this surely rates as Senior Executive Schedule pay.  Per the link, that is somewhere between roughly $120,000 and $180,000 per year.  Would you be willing to serve for something in that range?  Did you have a particular number in mind?

Sw - thoughtful post!

Hope this site remains, unattached to "higher authority".  Like the openness and variety, freedom of expression.  It provides some educational benefits as well as an opportunity for wider cognitive perspective.  While some posts obviously appear egocentric, minimal policing could resolve these issues without so much risk of public backlash, ridicule, and/or embarrasment.

Re: Is it time for the USDA/AWSS ??????

great idea!

sw, if you can pull this off --get USDA moving...go for it!!!

you'd be the perfect SES IMO - good idea Jim.

This is more what i had in mind, Dismal Science -- Defininately, NOT what you said....any meaningful, respectful, respectable, accountable info, idea, humor, entertain. -- that is not intended for destructive purposes.

thanks.

SW: did you fall down a flight of stairs and bump your noggin?

Where do I sign up for this USDFA web site. I just love the CRP, DCP, SURE, Obummercare, and many other too numerous to list things the "it's for your own good" crowd has dumped on us

I really don't think I would mind one more little one.

Re: Is it time for the USDA/AWSS ??????

It was a joke------- part of it -----------------well a little of it ------------------ sort of.

please be careful with those letter combinations  cx.  You accidentally slip an R in the wrong place and shaggy will be on me like a pit bull.

Should have stayed with the first choice AWSS  ---- A title that's been around for a while but John ignores me -----Agriculture Website Secret Service. ------------- but now the site has become more juvanile so I think Social Services is appropriate.

Like Jim Meade said -------- and if it had no humor in it, then I deserve it--------- I been working as AWSS steadily creating the need for AWSS for a long time. ----------That's what you meant, right Jim?   🙂
