Re: It's Time To Kill Bushels Of Corn

So we start selling our corn in hectoliters and worship the global antichrist, we`ll capture a extra dime per bushel....errr  I mean extra dime per hectoliter?  Nope not worth it, I`ll keep cussing while I look for a 18mm socket to put on my 1/2" drive ratchet  🙂

Re: Corn everlasting?

Well, Jim you sure stirred up the hornets nest. So the question you always ask is how do you or I use that in our marketing plan? Some of the responses seem to be how will this help my farm profitability? Maybe we need some government assistance to make the transition? OR NOT

Re: It's Time To Kill Bushels Of Corn

Actually the cost to the US has been to the farmers, business that do repairs and even all of the consumers of the U.S.   I was told this would cheapen our equipment(purchasing a combine at the time). If they only made the metric parts, it would lower production costs.  In all actuality, it only helped the large multinational companies like John Deere, Caterpillar and so forth.  We all had to buy the wrenches, all the dealerships had to have another set of tools, the repair shops, etc..  We paid the price for the large companies to make a little bit more.  If the metric system was so superior to all we do,  Why do we still use a 24 hour clock worldwide.  Maybe governors would be so wasteful as to change all the highway signs to metric.

Jim, explain how this has hurt our exports or cost us money to not be totally metric.  It is not even logical.

Aw, come on,  ten people can reply to Jim's post about the metric system but nobody can bother to give me an opinion about their seed handling system to load planters over under machinery?

Ask them if they have a marketing plan.  (I saw your post but don't have any help for you - I do have and am implementing a marketing plan.  🙂  )

Re: It's Time To Kill Bushels Of Corn

In Jim's tool example, it's interesting to note that both the 1/2" and 13mm sockets are turned with a 3/8" drive handle. There are no .9525cm socket drive handles.  Even in Europe!  I worked for a Dutch company for a while, and one of the friends I made was restoring an old MG. He complained that he had to buy English tools to work on it, but noted that even in Holland, the metric sockets were turned with English-measured handles.

I have this handy little conversion tool on my laptop called "Convert".  Quickly converts anything to anything (did you know mach 1 is 644.3 knots?), and best of all it's free!  got to https://joshmadison.com/convert-for-windows/ to get your copy.

Google will do all kinds of conversions, too.Screen Shot 2018-01-08 at 9.23.44 AM.png

Although it looks like we might have a discrepancy... Screen Shot 2018-01-08 at 9.25.26 AM.png...

Re: It's Time To Kill Bushels Of Corn

Mach probably wasn't a good example because the speed of sound depends on the medium it's going through - temperature, pressure, humidity.  I manually calculated it using 20 degrees C (68F), low humidity, and I get 666.504kph (That's knots per hour, not kilometers per hour). Closer to google's number, but not exactly the same. So the programs are using different (and unknown) numbers for speed of sound.

So Jim, how does this affect your marketing plan??  How can I use this information to improve my bottom line?  Maybe FB needs to lobby for grants to help farmers convert to metric?
