Its 32 degrees "here" as I type...........

Jump to solution

Looks like we are in for one day of sun...........followed by two days of rain.............then 3 days of sun........then more rain........going to be hard to get in and do much if this weekends rain pans out.........

Might be able to run by Monday afternoon IF IF IF we miss the weekend rain, however that will be a challange and it will at best be cloudy all weekend.............we need heat and sun bad...........

Corn thats in the ground will likely need some replant, too early to tell for sure, but last year in this area we had a similar situation of good planting in early April followed by cold and wet for an extended period...........a lot of fields around here that have been planted for 2-3 weeks and are not up yet................however this is going to play out interesting IMO...........with insurance, inputs, sold bushels, and TIME ticking away.............these replant acres may have to wait...........bare fields might just get all the attention...........IMO, based on the forecast and calender there is going to be some corn acres put in on marginal ground conditions..........these big guys might have big tractors, tillage, and planters.............they are also so spread out it takes a decent spring to get it all done............they don't have that this year...........overall averages could suffer in favor of getting over the ground, if these guy's have insurance the gaurantee is pretty dang good..........and big equipment is not a good thing on wet soil...............they will do what they can, but at the end of the day its a business, especially these big cash rent outfits..........thus bottom line is just as important as averages.............

As for markets............they toyed with them yesterday pretty good.........a lot of commodities swung yesterday..........the grain story is one of pure supply and demand..........IMO exports are our biggest challange..........sounds like even with the weak dollar China might be trying to curb consumption instead of bringing more in............thats not going to work real well if that economy has really crossed a threshold into a new era...........we shall see...........wheat has basically hit its sales number, just gotta get it out the door............soya are very close on both............corn is lagging..........

Makes for an interesting story as they are all going different directions...........corn supplies are in peril and US production could be too, yet demand might be getting shakey.............wheat supplies are decent, but US production is surely hurt, maybe bad and demand is pretty solid...............soya supplies are on middle ground but tight and US production is still very much up in the air and demand is pretty solid...............

41 degrees and light rain.   Plant?   Take a week vacation somewhere and don't think about planting.

Got booted from one place and now gracing this forum with your brilliance? Corn is going higher forever and ever and ever and ever. That pretty much covers your input.

I don't know what your handle over on the other forum was/is...........doesn't really matter..........FYI I have been registered and posting on this site for a year or two............AND have been posting on this webpage clear back to 1999.........had several post make the front page from time to time............while there was a small dry spell there were I didn't POST and I think my account was deactivated or they changed formats and you had to reup your account..........I remember the days of John SWMN and others.................board got quiet for awhile...........but back in the day Machinery and Crop pages were bustling.........then everyone kind of moved to the other board...........

So no I didn't just move over here, been here for a long time...........just not in a constant day to day capacity.........and probably won't be once the dirt starts flying...........

As for corn to the moon and nothing else...........just because I don't pour over charts picking exact entry points and post spread plays doesn't mean my thoughts are not without merit............did it ever occur that some people post their general thoughts and market direction without laying out their balance sheet and playbook for the world to see............if I wanted to do that I would make a career of it and charge for it.............I enjoy this as much of hobby and business neccessity............

Thanks for the kind words............

I don't want to ruffle feathers, but it seems to me that humanity has people that see things in patterns and other people that re-assess all conditions and are reactionary. There isn't really anything wrong with either system, but I am having a hard time believing that with all of the extreme situations in the world that marketing will follow the conventional pattern. It will surely need to make adjustments to the traditional pattern as Asian countries increase their purchasing. The timing will most likely change as to their preferred suppliers growing season. Then there is the occassional cancelled order. Unrest in middle eastern countries, crazy weather in much of the North American production areas, energy needs that are becoming more critical, and people in government that think they can help the situation, but can really tip the playing field, add to that the increasing population that is increasing geometrically, and all those people will like to eat from time to time.

I guess what I am saying is it doesn't seem all that unreasonable to be bullish now, whether the charts point to that or not.

I can't believe my login info was still good! I haven't been here in a long time! I suppose I am here again because I want to hear MT's opinions. I like something other than doom and gloom all the time.
