Just got 5,000,000+ requests

For something like this

DSCN0054.JPG

from all the corn plants out in the field here.

The way it feels outside right now you'd think we were in

NORTH Podunk Country instead of South...

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

Did not know they had my e-mail.

(or that they were computer savy)

What will Monsanto think of next?

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

46.1 F this morning, The furnace ran once on the heat side (so far).

I'm kind of wondering about pollination as that is where my corn is right now.

This should be the longest pollination period on record as the corn is almost at a standstill

at these temps.

Lost the corn crop out in Kansas to drought and now the last few days have gotten up to 4.7 inches depending on which farm. Doubled the rain total this year out there in just a few days.

The milo crop out there should be great. (counts as corn)

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

My milo was just starting to push some heads on Friday, so this rain was timed perfect for that.  Played with my population from 32,000 to 38,000 and almost everything in between at planting time.  It will be interesting to see if the lower pops will produce as well as the higher ones with this rain.  I was told that unless we really cut populations down on milo that we can't tell a difference at harvest time.  Not really sure if I buy that argument, so we'll see here in a couple months.

Been raining here all night long.  We received 1.6" as of 11:30 last night, we had to receive at least another inch since then.  I'll check when I get home and post the total.

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

Shaggy, please try and let us know if there's any difference in yield. My milo population on irrigated ground is over 100,000 but I'm trying to see how low I can go on dry land. Don't want to use water growing stalk. Thanks.

Not a problem Jed as long as I don't forget.  What part of the country are you from?

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

Sorry, thought it was in my profile. I'm in east central Arkansas. We are in a area of 52" of annual rainfall but we have to irrigate everything we can. I'm prol 90% irrigated.

OK color me stupid, but with 52" of rain why do you need to irrigate?

Re: Just got 5,000,000+ requests

That's a very good question and one I ask myself all the time when I'm getting everything going and spending a pile of money everyday. Just this summer we went from June 1 till July 18 without and rain at all, some summers it's even longer. The non watered crops just about died, even the dry land milo was not going to head. The rain came just in time for it.
Dry land corn will make 0-90, mostly 0. It's just not hardly grown without water. I've seen cotton make as much as a 1000# more with water but its mostly 200-500# better. Soybeans will make 20-50bu more.
We are between the Mississippi River and several others that drain into it and setting on water 20' underground but we can sure burn up in a hurry.
