Just out of curiosity, sold ahead?
I admit that I've sold more new crop corn than I normally do but given the run-up in new crop price can you afford not to? I'd be curious to know how far out over your skis others might be. I'll start, 60%.

20 percent of 160 yield 10 percent of 45 yield. I am expecting a below trend yield this year. Hope I’m wrong.

20% of 160 yield, 30% of 50 yield. Not selling any more - this is enough to pay fall rent and fall fertilizer for next year. Plus, if we get rain and the above normal yields, the balance will fit in the bins.

Re: Just out of curiosity, sold ahead?
100%
Of nothing sold ahead.
I haven't even got last year's all sold yet.
All but 20ish acres of beans are in a flood plain.
100% of the corn might make 25 by per acre if like '88
Again.
I've got a bank account that has absolutely no desire to buy a
high dollar crop I sold too cheap before I even had a clue if it
would go to harvest.
Must be nice to think you live in a place
with a guaranteed minimum yield.
Only thing I have is a guaranteed minimum
gross dollar amount, I have a 100% chance of
Not frittering away that revenue selling a bird in the bush.
I think this thing has a 60% chance of not ending
well west of the Mississippi river for many.

Re: Just out of curiosity, sold ahead?
on the fringe in every market and our dry land acres are as risky as Hobby's
So we haven't sold much corn and seldom do ...... since we sit in one of the best basis areas in the country.
Milo/grain sorghum is our one exception we have sold 20% of expected production. (at least half that production will be irrigated so risk is minimal....... but still risk.
Then why? ... simple The milo market is very fragile and has been a wreck since way before congress declared corn the fuel of the future. It has family problems.... ancestors tend to turn into noxious weeds, so genetic modifications have been avoided(it is a small market). What keeps it alive. The anti science anti GMO crowd. It stores well. So China likes it occasionally and we don't raise a lot of it--and there are reasons.
Now we have one of those rare once in a lifetime markets where it is bringing a 60 cent basis premium over corn basis.
Worth a little risk....

Re: Just out of curiosity, sold ahead?
just like last year that over rated sprinkle is joined be an 800 mile front of high wind.
It is not a weather market if the weather is beneficial.
The question is, "will last years bad weather be followed by a great weather year?" Beginning with arctic cold in February and march, nothing has indicated this will be a better year.
