A few stories explaining some of the nations wildfires. I'm proud to say many of my local volunteer colleagues have shipped out to numerous locations around SW, SE, & NC Kansas to aid support and mutual aid to where they where needed most. Small town living and the lifestyle instilled in such is irreplaceable and not understood by many who have never lived it. Rural communities living & supporting one another at the worst possible moments.
I for one insisted to remain at home to supply local support to those who volunteered to ship out as well as fire support should we have something of our own. Many of those just left their homes on a moments notice with an early morning pager tone not realizing they'd be gone for multiple days. Gives me pleasure in caring for their livestock upon their absence of helping those in need. God bless all those affected directly and indirectly and especially God bless those who are facing these historical events head on.

Re: Kansas is burning
Amtrak's Empire Builder was stuck near Rugby, ND in a snowbank 25 feet high and 200 feet long for about 12 hours Tuesday.
From one extreme to the other.

Re: Kansas is burning
I've heard about Kansas burning. I've read in a book from https://firerecruitmentaustralia.com.au that the worst fires are caused by nature itself. This fire started due to the climate, if I'm not wrong. This is why it takes so much time to stop it. The weather is arid, the temperatures are high, it's windy, and there aren't a lot of precipitations. I think till now, a lot of hectares have been destroyed. The firefighter forces are also not enough, from what I've heard. It's a pity, really.

Re: Kansas is burning
Thanks for bringing shaggy back into a thread, I miss him.
This is absolutely true.... Nature causes most disasters. Fire is part of natures cycle.
Those years from 2011 till 2017 were as bad as our "Great Depression Dust bowl" of the 1930's in terms of heat and rainfall. (Similar in the first 7 years of the 1950's). Farming practices of no till and Grass management and far better equipment kept it under control this time. Also the modern day press does not care about the midwest and wouldn't come here unless there were many deaths of those in agriculture to use for political gain. We have been cycling from wet to dry and back again in extreme ways probably since the earths rotation began. Kansas is on the downslope of the high ranges of the Rocky Mountains to our west and extremes are common(especially wind).
With wind above 70 mph and gusty, and on the ground rather than highest wind at 500 to 1000 feet above us, and dry stubble or dry grass plentiful, it is possible for the static electricity from a tumble weed rolling across the plains to start fires. Static electricity can hit like small lightning.
