Re: Market reaction to slow maturing crop?
We aren`t ready for a frost, but we never are this time of year, I see highs in the 70s and 80s, lows in the 50s for the next 7 days, after that no one really knows. I think if we can make it to October 1 normal frost, we`ll be okay, some replanted in June and might want an extra week or 2.
I`ll never forget 2009, that danged corn wouldn`t dry below 32% for love or money and it had specks of black mold, the elevators didn`t dock, but you wanted to get it gone and not deal with storing it. Getting the beans ready is the biggest concern, if it`s rainy until mid October, those days start getting short, too dewy until noon to cut and then by 5:00 they start getting tough and picking up moist. Then you have combine trouble and the weatherman talks a week of rain in the forecast and the shorter days of November get closer. So, you switch to corn and go back to cutting beans on Halloween and find out on that first bean load in 2 weeks that....... the elevator really doesn`t want 17% moist beans.

Looks like you might've received some rain last night. What are your growing degree days?
