More important than a limit up day in any grain.

Probably doesn't belong here, but I don't post on any other forum much.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/04/25/rural-kids-parents-angry-about-labor-dept-rule-banning-farm-chores...

Looks like America wants more kids that don't know how to work.  Pretty soon we will be so 'protected' we will be worthless.

But long term it does affect food production.

Maybe I am just to old to 'get' it any more.

To add some marketing thoughts.  Brazil ports are not overbooked I don't think, they are 'oversold'.  When you sell more than you raise, you have to close the door.  The world is counting on us guys that were overworked as children to bail them out of a grain shortage this year.  But since it is important to get 8 hours of sleep at night, we need to take our time instead of worry about production.  Do you think we need to go to logs for tractor hours?  LMAO

I fully agree.  This proposed child labor law is far more intrusive than what first  meets the eye.  It needs to be fully pitched into the sea.  If it becomes law,  there will be a lot of young folks out there who would just love to work on a  farm but can't.  Is there a penalty for not obeying this law?

All it will take is one teacher hearing one kid complain about doing his chores and we'll find out.

Re: More important than a limit up day in any grain.

As a teacher (and FFA advisor), I have more complaints about kids who do not do chores........

Always amazing how some kids will get up at 5 to walk show pigs before coming to a 7:30 am FFA meeting (while tired from doing an hour of homework at 10 pm after they got home from a track meet) while others can barely get out of bed 10 minutes before class begins.  But you know that as well as I do.

AS for the proposed law, it has been under heavy discussion in my circles.  I'm not too worried.  However, when they begin handing out fines and jail sentences to a farm family who operates as an incorporated business just because their 14 year old son helped to unload a full rack of hay bales, it may be time to find another country to farm in.

Re: More important than a limit up day in any grain.

My Jr and Sr year of HS I milked cows before going to school. I was the only one in my family that wanted to farm and knew that if it was going to be there for me I had to do it. I did complain about it when all my friends were screwing around after school and I had to get home but I do not regret a minute of it now. (Screwing around after school usually leads to no good)

With that and this: what's happening to this country?

Re: More important than a limit up day in any grain.

An additional part of the proposed regulations strips 4-H and FFA clubs of their safety certification - and replaces it with a 90 hour federal government safety program.

Straight up, I am what I am, and have accomplished what I have today because I grew up on a farm, and learned how to work, be safe, be responsible, and to think ahead.  My father would show me how to do something, explained the safety ramifications, and warned me of the consequenses if I lost sight of the safety.  Increasing the role of government will only make our kids worthless.  Furthermore - ask yourself where does it stop?  We are about to spiral back into the freedoms enjoyed by Soviet Russia.

Well,

It looks like it is over.  Great news!!  Read the  "red" in the first paragraph of your link.  This whole ordeal has made our farm more safety minded than before.  Looks like a cold windy day out there.  Lots of corn going in here in Central IA.

Take care.

nice sentiments AD!

this country was formed by those who also possessed your sentiments. today this country has leaders whom are determined to undo the Founding Father's outline, and those leaders are on both sides of the isle......as the Progressive Playbook is coveted by many a politician because of how this Entitlement Agenda places large numbers of citizens beholden to their Elected Officials!

Only through Divine Providence will this country return to the Founding Father's vision, as that is where they by & large sought their answers from to begin with!!!!!!
