Re: Morning All
I know - it's really small - but it's 3:30 am, and I still want to try and get some sleep. I may try and fix it later. But you can see what I want to show you. This is a 48 hour graphic, and it shows the moisture that we got night before last here in MN, and the moisture that Iowa is receiving tonight.
As of now, the system working it's way though the Midwest is putting out roughly 1/2 (or less, like I figured was going to happen if you read what I wrote yesterday) the moisture it did last night. But, the important thing, is the Gulf water is getting shut off feeding this system.
I still think there is enough water vapor in the atmosphere, that tomorrow night, we may see more development than this evening. But then, how much is going to be left is the real question. I'll look at it more probably tomorrow evening, and see what happening.

Re: Morning All
Oh, I'm still standing by my first forecast that I did several days ago. I never did believe the 5 inch + scenerio that the weather service had put out . I still stick by one 1 - 2 over the couse of the system for most folks in IN and OH - even for RT.
I look at other things than just the QPF. The position of the Jet Stream, how strong, upper air systems, how strong the surface low is and the fronts. Then how much was is/might be available, how fast fronts are moving, air mass temperatures, and their movement, sunspots of course, and all those things get rolled in together before I draw a conclusion as to what I think will happen.
Weather prediction long range, especially when you start to get specific 7 days away with where and how much, is tough. Because, guess what, you're still using weather predictions to come up with the conclusions. So then you also have to weight how good you think the projections are that you're going to base your 'best guess' off of. And the farther you go out, the tougher it is.

Re: Morning All
Looks like that's about how CWG has it this morning.
Pretty general 1-2" coverage across ECB with up to 4 only in a small band MO boot to IN pocket.
Which is generally good as extreme saturation would knock back rhizobia and be somewhat counterproductive.

Re: Morning All
Here is what happened since Weds West of DMS. (Iowa) Wednesday was a hot humid day with no rain in the forecast. By late afternoon clouds began to billow up in the south and darken, soon thunder and heavy rain for 1 hour with 60 MPH top wind gust. Rain total was 3.9". It was not suppose to rain. Last night had another 2.04 inches with a 79MPH wind gust. Yes, there is some flat corn around. Too warm for hail. Crops will still do very well here.
I do hope this rain does move East to the dry areas there.

Re: Morning All
Cedar Rapids got 5" last night, Iowa City got 2" or a bit more. I dumped an even 2" from my gauge this morning.
