Re: Need snow cover ....

Clayton58,

If that low south of LA comes across a little south of projections we could see a 20 degree rise and a pretty heavy shot of snow in a couple of days.

Been a long time since we have seen lows cross the southern rockies.  All the weather the last 6 years has been way north.

Re: the 10 below is happening,

she's a DRY COLD though.

hopefully that great looking KS and OK wheat next spring does NOT freeze out due to another late spring killer..like it has the past 2 springs.

we'll see.

slowly but surely a bunch of the W / SW is simply desertifying.

gets on average a touch drier and more extreme hot and cold every year...been this way for 14 years ... more noticeable now though.

Re: Need snow cover ....

That would be great. I've noticed too that's haven't had storm fronts from the south for a while. I could not have said it's been six years but that probably right. Seems that long since we've had a good wheat crop

Re: Need snow cover ....

Years ago most of our storms came out of the southwest now they are coming out of the northwest

Re: Need snow cover ....

The rain/snow event on Christmas of 09 gave us a wheat crop in 2010 -------- the last decent crop.  but I think it came in from the north.

I just remember us always watching the lows and if they came into the texas panhandle below us we had to watch for a heavy snow.

We used to run a  lot of calves on wheat in winter.  Like this one it usually gave us a couple of days to get feed ready and fill tank heater bottles.

If it came into the Amarillo area or Lubbock it would pull warmer moisture out of the gulf and give us a good one.

SW & Clayton, looks like your wishes might partially come true.  2-6 inches predicted for my area and looks like yours as well.  HAPPY NEW YEAR
