Re: New CDL regs coming Monday
180 miles isn`t very far, I figure I`m basically "home" if i`m 250 miles away. If a farmer sees a tractor on Craigs List 200 miles away, that`s nothing, less than 3 hours away. But now they`ll have to hire it hauled and finding a machinery hauler might be difficult at times.
And the so-called hot shot haulers, there`s a place for them, to haul 8,000 10,000lbs in seed or chemical and they`re more nimble and accommodating. If the DOT doesn`t like the looks of their load, they can pull em over, they aren`t bashful.
But the 70 80yr old in a motorhome not needing a CDL (I don`t think they should have a CDL either) I just drive around them ... it`ll be me one day 😀 But the fact the laws crack down on people who are doing honest work for a living and turning a blind eye to the retiree with a $400,000 behemoth shows you. The Golden Rule: Those with the Gold make the Rules.

I`ll just post a link and say, these people aren`t likely to be required to have a CDL any time soon.

Re: New CDL regs coming Monday
What's the hoopla about?
In Iowa you need a class A to even drive your own grain semi farm to market. Don't need a medical card though.
I openly admit I'm a farmer with a truck and not a professional driver.
Most problems are caused by idiot car drivers.

Re: New CDL regs coming Monday
I think that farmers who can prove that they have owned and driven a semi for a couple of years ought to be grandfathered in and given a cdl. JMO

Re: New CDL regs coming Monday
It does sound like a bit much.
First, having a ton pickup drag around a tractor...first of all must not be much of a tractor.
I notice out on the "big highway"
There are all sorts of "contraptions"
Going down the road, pickups and trailers loaded to the gills, that poor pickup is smoking like crazy, and each one of them going like a bat out of $#@!.
Then at harvest, best to drive in the ditchs....people driving semis like nuts ...70 mph down a dirt road ??
Every year several wrecks caused by stupid drivers.
In ks many vehicles are supposed to have commerical tags ...even the local vet has to have one !!!
And this is in a rural red state...
Seems like FB has been hiding last couple years...hmmm...selling health insurance that is not health insurance, because they do not have to file or meet any requirements, like bcbs, medica, ambetter, cigna...etc....plus turn down over 65 percent of the people that apply.
In some ways, some regulation is needed, but usually means higher operations cost, paperwork and headaches.
Just my opinion.....
Oh you think the class A campers are bad ...The circus is comming to town when they have a super sized 5th wheeler.....with a boat behind...and a little trailer behind it with an atv......
A young guy with a wife and 4 kids screaming....
Quiz.. ..what is the biggest threat on highway ?
All at or above the speed limit.

Re: New CDL regs coming Monday
A friend of mine works as a trucker and works with truckinginsurance.org. He told me that the rules require entry-level drivers trained by a provider listed on the training provider registry. The rules are not retroactive, so they do not apply to people who hold these licenses and renew them before they expire. People exempt from the skills test under 49 CFR Part 383 are also exempt from the requirements under the ELDT rules.
