Wonder what the Trump hater analyst from Royal, Iowa will have to say, the sky didn't fall. Dow up, even lean hogs on a tear.

Re: New crop beans, back to pre-tariff talk price

If you extrapolate today's news to infinity (never a good idea), after the tariffs go into effect, China will buy all Brazil's beans at a premium. Europe will buy US beans, crush them, and sell the meal to the chinese, effectively becoming middlemen for sales of US beans to China.  It's more or less a wash for US producers, the winners will be Brazilian producers and european crushers, and the losers will be chinese crushers and consumers. Since that's not really a good deal for the chinese, I doubt that's where we'll end up.

China sells $600 billion to the US and the US sells $100 billion to China, so they have no leverage in trade. So I discount all the talk about pork or beans or oil tariffs. China NEEDS all that stuff. Their leverage will come when we have Treasury auctions to try to sustain our perpetual deficit spending. We NEED them (or someone) to buy our debt to keep our welfare state going. But the silver lining might be that SOMETHING finally addresses the need to balance spending with revenue (both sides of the aisle to blame in this case, IMO).

"Europe will buy US beans, crush them, and sell the meal to the Chinese".... That idea only works if you don't own a globe....

Yes.......yes.......everyone keep selling at $10...........whatever.   The more that is sold now, the higher the price can go later.     I'm waiting for more.  Smiley Wink
