New crop wanted ?? It's already here !
I noted the little article on page one...what kind of
Washed up experts are you talking to ????
Turnips !!
My God man, have you ever ate one ??
You can eat raw (if young and sweet), cook them,
Soup and stews, even make kraut out of them.
But sorry, I don't think they are the latest thing.
But there is a crop out there that meets your qualifications. No herbicide or fertilizer needed,
You only have to plant, it does produce high
Protein seed, and can be harvested with
Current equipment, such as swather and baler
Plus the crop I believe is native, and few if any
Diseases or insect problems
What is miricle crop ??
Maryjane !!

Re: New crop wanted ?? It's already here !
The thing with "new crops", all it takes in some cases is a dozen guys raising it and the market gets flooded. Back in the 80`s desperate farmers raised artichokes and got their butts handed to them. There are very few secrets in farming. The way it looks raising Enogen corn and Plenish beans and getting a 40 cent premium, put up some hog finishing houses for free "fertilizer" is the only tricks out there.

I was looking at quinoa, but it looks like our climate is not suitable. Maybe in the future with enough "climate change"?
