New field-level crop progress estimates for entire corn belt

We are excited to be able to share some of our research and modeling work for the first time in this public forum.

Now that the 2013 corn and soybean crops have been planted, there is a lot of interest in understanding how quickly crops are maturing in various parts of the country. While the USDA publishes Crop Progress reports that estimate how the crop is progressing at the state level, we have created the first analysis that shows how crop progress varies within a state, and even from field to field within an individual county. Videos of crop progress are available for the entire Corn Belt as well as for individual states.

I question it's accuracy.

It shows most of western ks corn at R-1 stage on July 3 and there is not a field I have seen tassled and just a few beginning into that stage.

Thanks for the feedback. If you raise corn out in that area, would appreciate any information you can provide about the county you are in, the date you got corn planted and what relative maturity you planted. That will allow us to look more closely at some of the results we are showing in that part of the country.
