New updated vhi maps and major suckage

Looks like all states in the corn belt are going downhill except for Indiana, which is only average for this date.

Long range maps went back to hot and dry so you can't rely on a long term friday map.  Like we have learned the last three years.

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

And the 200 bushels breadbasket called Iowa and So Mn still sticks out like no other.   I need to get the job of giving info to the funds, need to be about as good as the local weatherman. 14 mil-whatever 13 mil a month ago 12 mil today 11 mill in a month?

If poeople would just get in a plane for a couple hours they would see what the potential is  ....and I am told I live a good spot this year!

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

The most interesting part of the picture is China! Now you know why they're buying corn and wheat at these prices.

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

Comparing the map to last year at this time when we had a widespread drought settling in we are already in worse shape than it was then. The only area that appears greener is Siberia. Hopefully they planted a lot of short season corn up there.

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

Now you understand why I wasn't so bullish this time last year.  In contrast you can see why I am so bullish this year.  Look at that map and say with a straight face yield is in the 150's,  not after this hot weather streak.  After looking at this how can anyone say 14 or 15 bill carryout with a straight face.

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

the comparison to ANY other year is simply jaw dropping.

shouldn't the heart normally be pollinating 'bout now?....how deep are the roots this year?....while the H2O requirement is about to peak.......how deep were the taproots last year, same date?

Re: New updated vhi maps and major suckage

Vince, having driven N-S, and E-W in Indiana the last few days, there must be something wrong with the callibration on the VHI maps. There is no way that IN is only average. Frankly, it is best looking corn crop in all of history. Beans are late and are just darkening,so the map from a week ago is meaningless.

Yes, it is getting dry, but we are 2" of rain away from very high yields. I have no idea if it rains or not. Clearly weather folks alot better trained than Jenny think she is way off base. I like her thoughts, but we farmers get sucked into the "Fear Cycle" this time of year and just loose perspective.

My only point is that using VHI maps as you guys are using them is very RISKY. A late crop will green up later. Dry now in IA is probably good for yields, but it MUST RAIN later. That is the issue and as of today, the market apparently thinks it is going to rain. I do not, but my view is meaningless. I can tell you with 100% certainty however that the VHI map for IN understates the crops condition.
